149, 99 percentile. Does this mean she will be in pool for AAP or does she need to do really well on the CoAGT (whatever the 2nd grade test is) as well? Also, what does "in pool" mean? If this score puts her "in pool" what other screening is done to determine if she actually gets in AAP or not?
Yes, she'll be in the pool next year regardless of how she does on the CoGAT. A 149 is extremely high and well past the traditional cut score in the low 130's. The second grade teachers and Advanced Academic teacher will meet to review her class work and rate her using something called a "Gifted Behaviors Rating Scale." They will complete a packet that is turned into the Advanced Academic office who then makes the decision about who to accept into the program. As a parent, you can submit a questionnaire to go along with that packet.
This is very interesting. Previously, both the NNAT and the CogAT were given in the 2nd grade and thus it makes sense for the 2nd grade teacher and AART teacher to meet and discuss the child. Now, the child takes the NNAT during the 1st grade, but the 1st grade teacher has no input into determining the GBRS...whether he/she is still at the school during the child's 2nd grade or not.
