| Had similar problem w/ my 1st C-section (though only for a couple days). Milk of Magnesia is your friend. Dr told me to take that and avoid the laxatives because of the cramping they could cause. He told me to take a dose wait the recommended amount of time then take another dose ... said I wouldn't get to the 3rd dose. He was right ... one dose took care of things. I was much more careful w/ my diet and fiber intake after my 2nd C-section. Good luck!! |
| You will - I promise. It took my six days before I pooped! I just kept taking stool softners and ate lots of fiberous foods. |
|
Goodness FOR ME, the pooping was worse than the section or anything else I can think of, actually. I delivered at INOVA Alexandria and they let me go home after 4 days without pooing. It took 7 whole days and I don't mean to scare you but that was the WORST pain of my life. Milk of Magneisa finally for things loving for me and having bearing down...oh the horror!!!
Good Luck OP!! |
| Oh god. Why don't they warn you about this?! I had this too. But I could actually feel the bowel movement trying to get out, but no amount of pushing would birth it. I pushed for an hour and after a bowl full of blood (burst hemorrhoid) I called the midwife. She recommended a fleet enema. Worked well, but it hurt getting it out. The stool was so hard, despite the senecot they put me on in the hospital. M of mg did not help. Good luck, you are not alone |
Not to be gross, but have you passed gas yet? If you haven't been able to, call your doc right away. If you have and you just can't poop, hang in there! The first one will be a doozy. Good luck! |
| I would call your doctor, to see if you can get a mild laxative plus the softner. I had no idea and it was so painful when I did. I actually ended up with a hernia which made it painful every time I went for a while. Second time around was better. Bad bad memories. |
| I can't imagine being trapped in the hospital until I pooped, with everyone just...waiting. They just wanted to know that I was passing gas, though at the time I had no idea why they kept asking me about that. It took me about 5-6 days to go, and I don't remember it being particularly painful. I think I was in there awhile, though. It was probably a nice break for me at the time. |
LOL! If you ever have a kid vaginally, though...well, it's not any better than pooping after a c-section. There's a reason they call it the "ring of fire" -- no matter which way, I agree it's enough to second guess having more! |
| vaginal birth here - naval medical center in bethesda earlier this year and they made me poop before i was discharged....i had prune juice at every meal and it helped.....good luck but i would second the advice to call your doctor |
| It seems weird to me that they let you leave the hospital without doing that. They gave me an enema in the hospital and it happened immediately after. It's gross but you'll feel a thousand times better. |
| mirolax! worked wonders after my second c-section. |
|
After I had my C-section the nurse was obsessed with whether or not I had a bowel movement (the next day).
Prune juice did the trick within an hour. A stool softener also works wonders and so does a Fleet enema. But check with your OB first. |
| 15:40 here again. I had so much gas I was sure I could be heard down the hospital hallway from the bathroom. |
| Another thing to try is aloe juice. That worked really well for me. Maybe mix it 50/50 with another juice if you don't like the taste (with prune juice for maximum pooping). And actually, what really helped me was... half of a beer. If it's safe with your meds, it might help you relax enough to get it out. I was definitely nervous which only makes it harder to go. Not the most PC suggestion, but hey, if it works it'll be worth it. And if you're breastfeeding, have a dark beer because it's supposed to help with milk supply. (I'm pretty sure that's an old wives tale but it's good justification.) |
| Day 7 for me. A big tall guiness did the trick. No pain. |
