Clueless Dad: Are Earrings from Claire's Safe?

Anonymous
It's not awful. It is different than what you would do - nothing more nothing less. Get over it.

OP here again.

Thanks everyone. I went to Claire's and, while all of the cheaper ones were labeled "sensitive," none of them specified exactly which metals were used. After reading about the allergic reactions that some of you mentioned, I decided to just absorb it "as the cost of doing business" and went to Piercing Pagoda again. She's had about five pairs from there over the last two years without incident.

It's tempting to feed the trolls, but with the holidays fast approaching I realize that some people have only their sense of superiority to keep them going. I shall not take that from you.

OP - You crack me up.

OP - love your responses!

I think you made the right decision. I was about to post that the problem with Claire's type earrings is they can cause problems/infections for some people even though they are fine for most, but a kiddo your DD's age might not be paying enough attention to it to notice until it got bad/really painful. Might as well be safe and stick with real silver or gold for now.

Yes, true of a lot of things at that time and I am guessing no longer an issue. I'd just check and see when the last time was otherwise, I agree with checking out the sensitive ears type.

Yes, Google this OP. I would stick with the expensive ones. !

Whatever you do, don't let your child try on the hats at Claire's. Lice.

Lord, you people are TACKY.

Do you know what I think is TACKY? Judgy bitches like you.

I'll judge you all I want. Piercing a toddler's ears is tacky. Honey Boo Boo tacky. Toddlers and Tiaras tacky.

And I'll judge you right back, ye olde righteous, classist, likely racist lady.

I'm a 41 year old man with two daughters whom I MIGHT allow to pierce their ears when they turn 13.

I'll admit to having better tastes, yes. Piercing a 2 yo's ears is just awful.

FYI: When your daughters are 13, they are not going to care what you think about it.

My pediatrician recommended this for me...but didn't help my own sesitivies to all but fold.

THIS

I've had my ears pierced since I was 48 hours old. It's never been an issue for me. You can think it's tacky all you want since I really don't have any damns to give you.

Lol

I can wear the cheap stuff from Claire's but there are definitely some that can cause some redness. For my one year old I do stick with the better quality ones. I don't want her to have any issues. And really, she just had one pair right now anyway.

Then the ear lobe swells and the hole starts oozing clear fluid. It gets infected if I leave it in.

I would go to a body piercing shop and get silver rings with a very thin gauge. Those can be left in and the clasp screws into place. Therney are very hard to lose.

Alternatively, go on overstock and buy some leverback earrings. The backs are all one piece and can't get lost.
