Clueless Dad: Are Earrings from Claire's Safe?

Anonymous
I mean, I am 13 years old and I got my ears pierced a couple of months ago. I changed my earrings 2 weeks after to those cheap ones at Claire's. I bought the spiky ones. They are totally fine, but I am not sure about little kids nor children under 12.

11:23--I knew there'd be one in the bunch. Here's what will really bake your noodle: She got them pierced at 6 months!

Why would you do that to your child?

Why do you care? Go away.

Zombie thread! This thread is from 2012. The two year old is now probably seven.

Highly unlikely. maybe 1 or 2 out of 100 lice cases occurred that way. It's the touching of heads. Research more.

No they are not safe. That is why they are so cheap. Even the sensitive solutions “nickel free” earrings are not safe. That is why even those are cheap. I am a chemist, I wear earrings and I have allergies to metals. Since getting my ears pierced and wearing cheap eRrings and then being exposed to chromium dust at the lab, I now have allergies to all cheap jewelry. Even the sensitive solutions earrings. I have to wear higher quality metals such as surgical steel, sterling silver or gold or platinum earrings. The more a person is exposed to nickel or chromium the higher the chance of becoming allergic. I hope this helps. My ears hurt and turn red when I try to put on cheap earrings after only seconds.

This. Calling something culturally normal and expected tacky is tacky and exhibits serious lack of education, awareness, breeding, basic knowledge that other cultures exist, etc.

I don’t like it either, but it is common in Latin America.... I am European and I would not circumcise my son either...

I have very sensitive ears and their earrings work for me.

+2!
I’ve been wearing those since I was a kid...they’ve been around a long time and have a good kid selection.
Also, anything that is titanium should also be totally safe as it’s a non-reactive metal and I don’t think I’ve seen it with nickel added.

If it's made in China, you just don't know what's in it.

Honestly I got my ears pierced at 5 they got infected so took them out, got my ears done again at 12. This time they did get infected but my sister taught me to tough it out and eventually you’ll get used to cleaning it enough to where you don’t get infections. I wasn’t allergic to the metals, rather I was touching them too much. Later when I hit 18 they got infected again and since I had an injury where I posted the hole wrong 😑 needless to say it took me 5 years from that point to retrain my ears to accept earrings again. Now I can take them out and put them in without issue no matter what type of metal. I’m 28 now 🤣 so I guess it really depends on your patience and keeping them as clean as possible.

Also when she was that young when she got her ears pierced it’s rare to develop allergy to peircings after. Just try them? They are supportively a titaniaum compound so may be worth trying. Clean them with Claire’s solution first

And you had to revive an almost 10 year old thread to tell us that. OK psycho.

i don't know why none of these people gave you no other suggestions as piercing pagoda (expensive) and claires is not the only option but claires does sell sterling silver earings which are usually the most affordable non irritatant type of earrings for most people and children included.

they sell that everywhere as an option. walmart, target, drugstores even, or ross, tjmaxx etc on discount. just ask or go to the section of sterling silver earings and/or where the posts are made of sterling silver. or if you want to spend a bit more, gold as well.
