Thanks for the positive post! I would love to live in a place where my chikldren could walk outside their front door and join others riding their bikes etc. I am really looking for that perfect neighbourhood, where everyone knows each other. Any chance we have found it?

I'm the PP, and we couldn't be happier with our decision. Aberdeen Park is a neighborhood gathering spot, and there is a Potomac Chase Women's Club that holds regular events like a July 4th bike parade and a Halloween Fun Fest for the kids. There really is a feeling of community, which I didn't have in my previous neighborhood. It's a very active neighboorhood with people out & about, riding bikes, walking dogs, running, etc. When we first moved in, 3 different neighborrhood families came over to introduce themselves and welcome us, one even brought us a cake! Potomac Chase really reminds me of the small, close-knit neighborhood I grew up in back in NJ, which I hadn't been able to find since moving to MD 15 years ago.

So, in Potomac Chase, there are only a handful of homes available for less than $650K. Not many options out there, and those are not inexpensive.

We are hoping to stay the "right side" of $625K but you are right, at the moment it is slim pickings and those that are in great shape seem to be selling quickly.

Not sure how old your kids are, but be aware that there is land for a new high school on the Crown Farm that is now being developed. Don't know if it's on the Capital funding plan to be built anytime in the next 10 years or so, but the site is there and at some point with all the development coming to that area (see Belward Farm as well) that HS likely will be built.

If and when that happens the boundary lines in that entire area could change.

Can you imagine the firestrom that would occur if that HS in Crown Farm gets built and kids previously headed to Wootton get shifted to the new school? I know right now that area is part of the Gaithersburg HS district, but anything could happen if a new HS gets built. I definately considered that when deciding whetether or not to spend the extra $$$ to move to the Wootton district vs QO last year. Based on distance, I'm assuming the QO and Northwest districts would not be affected too much by a new HS in Crown Farm.

Do you all know if the HS will definitely be built within the next 10 years? I'm interested in that Crown Farm development and have small kids so this wouldn't impact us for 10 years but I would like to move somewhere with good schools. I'm not too crazy about the fact that right now that area is slated for Gaithersburg HS.

What can you afford in "North Potomac" for 600k? I live in 20878 and the houses in my neighborhood start at 900 and go up to 1.8/1.9. Granted, I know the ones on the high end are less common, but for 600k it seems that you would be well above 28 (darnestown road) so not near what realtors market as North Potomac/Darnestown near Jones Lane/Turkey Foot/Travilah/Glen road etc

I grew up in Potomac Chase in the late 80's/90's and attended Jones Lane Elementary. I absolutely LOVED living in that neighborhood! My parents are still there as are 90% of my childhood friends' parents. Highly rec. it! I'm now a teacher for MCPS and can say Jones Lane has a very good reputation in that area.

Easy. Townhouses on Ambiance for low $300s.

Plenty of SFHs around $600k that are not "well above 28." Do a search. They're not all million dollar homes.
