How often do you clean the cat litter

I used to think it was necessary to wash out the box once in a while, as some other pps mentioned, however I no longer do and it doesn't seem to make any difference in smell containment. I scoop every other day and change the litter out completely when it no longer clumps, usually a week to 10 days.
