Anyone coping with very heavy menstrual flow (TMI)?

How long was your recovery? I work full-time and I'm trying to gauge how long I would need to be out of the office.

I was out for one day when I had my ablation last December. Takes 20 minutes. You need someone to drive you home or accompanying in a taxi.

Am I the only one who has her giant clots slide out next to a tampon? WTF I say? I have tried every brand (playtex works better than Kotex. Tampax is like a funnel directly to my panties/pants/workout pants.). So I do the double of tampon + diaper (pad) for two days but i don't understand it. As I get older and more clotty it is so bad.

Anyone?

Me too, PP. It has gotten worse (heavier and clottier) with age. I have tried 2 tampons (Playtex S+) with a hospital grade pad and still can't leave the house for a day. Haven't tried a diaper yet, but maybe I should.

We are period soulmates -- not a good thing.

I do like Kotex due to ease of insertion. Who knew?

Plus I don't even want to tell you about the drugs I take for the cramps. Not a candidate for ablation and my age is not a candidate for bc.

Thanks so much! I will ask my doc about it.

I could have gone in to work the next day, but chose to go ahead and take the day off, since I'd already put in for the leave. I have a boring desk job, so it's not as though I would have had to be on my feet all day or anything. I had the procedure done around 3pm, I think it may have lasted 20 minutes or so. They put me under and after I came to when they were done, I walked into the recovery room across the hall, drank some juice, ate a granola bar, and then DH drove me home.

My recovery was only hampered by the fact that I had a bad reaction to the painkillers they prescribed me. Instead of asking for a drug I knew I tolerated well (percoset), I went with the doctor's recommendation of another drug I had never had before that was not a good one for me (vicodin). I was violently ill and therefore went through the most painful part of the recovery with no pain meds (since I couldn't keep anything down). After I could finally stomach crackers and ginger ale, I took a couple of advil and was fine the next day. If I had simply stuck with OTC meds or asked for the stuff I knew worked for me, it would have been an absolute breeze.

I'm 37 (turn 38 in April) and scared I'm going into menopause. It honestly keeps me awake at night crying. I'm single, a nanny and this is my worst fear. My periods are so heavy and now they're so random, sometimes every 45 days, then this period was 2 weeks after the last one ended. I have huge clots and my house looks like a crime scene, so much bloody this weekend. I ruined my couch and mattress!!! I'm scared to go to the doctor and find out if it's menopause. I'm over weight and wonder if maybe that's the reason? My periods became irrigular when I gained weight 3 years ago, but they were never heavy like this. But I don't have hot flashes or anything, (and no facial hair or signs of PCOS)... Am I in menopause?

I also had ablatin in December. Just turned 39 and love it. No more hormones, sex drive is back and I have ZERO bleeding. I had it on a Mon since my OB came In the first day of her vaca to do it for me. I could have easily went to work on Tues but chose to take it easy. Ended up buying a new car.

OP- it could be a sign that your period is about to start becoming sporadic.

I just turned 47, have always had regular, cramp-free periods. For the past year my periods have been very heavy - although not as heavy as yours and I've had cramping.

Then suddenly I missed my period for August and Sept. I think I have officially entered peri-men. Am seeing my GYN this week.

I have discovered- last year- that I could use incontinence pads for my super heavy flow. Instead of using a tampon and overnight pad which would last 2 hours tops and probably leak, I am using just 1 poise pad, lasts a few hours at least, and doesnt leak. I dont enjoy having a phone book between my legs but I dont think its too noticable.

I'd do it again.

ITA.

I had a vaginal hysterectomy (left ovaries intact) with TOT sling (urinary stress incontinence) also. Dr. had suspected adenomyosis and surgery was the last resort. I had a 6 week recovery period post surgery.

I had tried a diaphragm and then BCPs before kids but BCPs caused my blood pressure to elevate, then did Paragard post kids and then took that out since cramping and bleeding seemed to get even worse. I had the surgery done 5 years ago at age 38 and can now wear white pants/skirts/underclothes without worry and no more monthly cramps and other lifestyle changes! It seems to be genetic from my mother's side of the family (difficulties with menstruation, etc.) since my mom and her younger sister both had hysterectomies in their 40s. My older sis and a couple of other female cousins (maternal side) have held out, however, on having one done but they also share the "family curse"....

In the meantime, try some depends at bedtime. Messy, but at least you can sleep.
