Even the American Association of University Women, in a recent report playing up the pay gap, conceded that 5 percent is a reasonable estimate of the difference between men’s and women’s wages that cannot be explained by choice of occupation, employment history and the like.

Thank you I read the study. It's analysis of race was retry solid but they had problems on gender. The paper assumes without proof that married women voluntariky sort themselves into occupations which are lower paying in exchange for flexibility. It fails to consider that women with children or likely to have children are passed over for positions requiring high commitment and therefore high pay because the employer does not trust that they will deliver. If society expects that these women are only good for mommy track jobs, that is all that they may get. Even worse it may be that it is all these women think they deserve.
