Talk to the principle at the school. There's a new rule for twins that they can be placed in the same class/school if parents request. Hope it works out well for you.

Thank u I will talk to the principal

If your local school has local level 4, perhaps they can be in the same ll4 class?

what is NNAT/CogAT? and what is WISC score? not sure what is the score at 96%. since ususally people here say, WISC need to be above 130 (or at least 125) to have a good chance to get in on appeal.

Her Cogat was
Verbal 112
Quan 120
Non Verbal 118
VQN 118

WISC:
Verbal 126 Superior
PR 123
WM 102

NNAT 115

COGAT nonverbal-131

verbal -124

quantitative -131

GBRS -8

did not take wisc

i know a case with the similar scores and gbrs 9 got in without doing wisc and also another with similar scores and did wisc 126 did not get in;( i think wisc is totally waste of money...they only look at cogat scores and gbrs

With such high scores, you should have got in the first round. Because the GBRS is low, I only wish you have taken the WISC. It appears that the committee does not like to have appeals without new information.

Please do consider WISC, if your DC did not get in next year in the 1st round. Good luck.

I am no expert on this AAP process, but just because my DC did not get in at first round (but did get in on appeal), I have spent quite a bit time/effort on learning more about AAP. Here is a few things I can think of for your situation right now –

1. Try to apply AAP again next Jan, maybe with a new test score. I am not sure what kind of tests you can re-take again though, but I did not see you list NNAT, so maybe you could have her take NNAT or a different IQ test (FCPS website has the list of tests which they accepted)? Also have a good relationship with her 3rd grade teacher, communicates often to at least let teacher know/notice your child more. I am not say teacher will give a better GBRS just because you are active/helpful parent, but at least you can find out more about how teacher feels about your child sooner and work on it.

2. If your school has local level IV program, set up an app with principal and see if you can get your child in local AAP level IV as principal designated student. Principal designated students will be in same class as other AAP kids who choose to stay at base school and you can always apply next year. But this optional is all up to principal, s/he can put anyone in, pull anyone out anytime.

3. If your school is a AAP center school, set up an app with principal/AART teacher, and see if you can get your child in AAP level 3 program, (if she is not already in yet), I heard if a kid is in level 3, s/he will be in same class with other level 4 kids for reading, math, science and social studies, only back to his/her own class for music, PE etc, so it is almost same as level 4. Then still try to apply next year.

Just my 2 cents, and good luck!

this is not correct about level 3 being in the same class as level 4 - if the school is a center. we are at a center and (1) the principal doesn't just put kids into the AAP classes. They are eligible or not... they don't put them in these classes just so that their feelings don't get here. c'mon people!!! 2nd - the level 4 at AAP don't just get the level 3 kids. level 3 is 1 hour a week extra projects with the AAP resource teacher, NOT a full time program. pay attention!!

No need to get emotional -

first of all, non-center schools do have principal designated program, and principal has right to put any kid to LOCAL level IV class. If you are at a center then you don't have it, that was my second point.

second, my thrid point about level 3 kids are put together with level 4 kids for main subjects, I did say 'I heard' about it. Maybe every school is different.

It does not hurt to go to your own school to find out more details.

Pp with twins stated that their base school is the center. Not sure what the big fuss is about, then. Haven't they always been in different classes?

Their scores are remarkably different, so it's not surprising that one got in and one didn't. Hang in there for a year and reapply next year.
