Need a Career Change but Hate Everything Gov/Federal/Military

I get it, OP moved from NYC to the NoVa suburbs. It is a culture shock to go from working in a city to a faceless office park. I moved to the DC area (live in Bethesda and work in DC) from Boston in 1990 and I'm still trying to like this areas as much as I liked Boston. There are a number f diverse jobs opportunities, however, and that is why I stay. OP get out of the NoVa suburbs -- at least look for a job with a trade group in Alexandria. The reality is, now that AOL is no longer such a presence, in this are you tend to work for, with or against Federal agencies. Which is why there are always jobs.

I get that part, and it's understandable.

I just don't get why OP is such an abusive jerk. And I think the abusive jerkiness might be affecting her current job experience, as well as her job search.

Off-topic, I know, but does anyone seriously still use Monster.com? Last time I checked it looked like a cheap 1990 website, there are much better competitors out there.

I posted my resume on the WaPo, Career Builder and Monster. Most of my call backs come from recruiters are from Career Builder. Most of the places I apply for are on the WaPo. Still, some employers find me on Monster.

While you may disagree with OP's opinion and choice of words, abusive isn't quite accurate.

OP, I've been in DC my entire career and have never worked in a job related to government or the military. Its very possible.

Creative is relative and I know plenty of creative folks who are pursuing their passion here in DC (singers, guitarists, hair stylist, furniture maker, image consultant, jazz bar owner, etc) . It gives us nothing to work with OP.

Yeah, it's accurate. She abused a bunch of strangers -- basically every DCUM reader works a government job.

Unlike OP, I will actually tell you why government jobs are bad: the endless bureaucracy makes government jobs painful. But OP herself didn't bother with such trivia as explanations. All she says is that "your jobs make me want to vomit."

Surely a "creative person" could find something more descriptive than "makes me want to vomit." And "abusive" is not the same as "creative" so she needs to take a good look at herself.
