Need a Career Change but Hate Everything Gov/Federal/Military

Op, I get it, your husband dragged you kicking and screaming out of NYC and all its opportunities (as you perceive them). It was either divorce or DC and you reluctantly chose DC. You first thing that you need is a attitude adjustment. DC is not NYC and the moment you accept that the better off you will be. Take a deep breath and starting thinking outside the box - there a jobs to be had here that are not related to the government and there are even govt jobs that are creative. I know some who does "creative" work for the Smithsonian. Dont forget - positive attitude!!!

OP, I would never, ever hire you. I want team players who can cooperate with others. But you're so arrogant and self-important, you think you can go on the Internet and abuse total strangers anonymously. Attitude adjustment is right. Plus maybe an anger management class. Then maybe, just maybe, somebody might want to hire your wonderful ass.

OP is a troll.

Yeah, I get that OP could go on Monster.com without first coming here to abuse federal employees. The only point of starting this thread was to abuse federal employees.

But here's a philosophical nut to crack: does that make her a troll? Or just another crazy teabagger? Or - and I often lie awake at night wondering about this -- on the internet are they often the same thing?

You need to think about more pressing issues such as sex, beach and breakfast

You're right! This distracting myself with analyzing DCUM trolls doesn't hold a candle to those other things

Oh grow up. There is nothing abusive about saying you'd rather choke to death than to work for the gov/fed/military. That's OP opinion. Get your panties out of a bunch and realize that your career isn't God's gift to this earth.

OP, welcome to D.C. where most anything that comes out of anyones mouth is about the audience - not the actual topic at hand.

"It's not all about you" PPs. Get a grip. So she doesn't like your job? BFD.

OP, D.C. is as far from NYC as you can get. Sorry for you. Agree with PP to consider nonprofits, for example. GL. Remember, D.C. is a part of the journey not the destination.

Yes there is. There's nothing wrong with saying you'd prefer not to work for the Fed. There's a lot wrong with putting the word vomit in a post about job choices. Doesn't incline me to suggest anything useful.

I am a Fed in an area many would describe as unremittingly dull, but I bring great creativity to my work every day.

ITA. OP is entitled to her opinion, but there's no need to be a rude jacka$$ in the process. She totally needed to hear from that, from a boss.

OP, I hear you. I'm recently moved here from NYC and miss the creative vibe there. I work in a non-fed type job in what's known as a "helping profession." My job is at a university, and I find this environment is closer to what I enjoy that government or law. I don't really have too many suggestions, except to state that not everyone around here is a fed or lawyer (though many are). You'll find something. Even straight-laced DC types need some artsy and creative types to round things out around here!

Correction: they need pleasant, nice-to-work with artsy types. They don't need OP.

Off-topic, I know, but does anyone seriously still use Monster.com? Last time I checked it looked like a cheap 1990 website, there are much better competitors out there.

OP thinks talking about vomit and using thumbs-down emoticons are the hallmarks of a "creative" person?

No wonder her current job isn't working out so well!
