Holistic-minded pediatrician in the VA/DC area who accepts insurance?

That's it just one recommendation for Virginia? Anyone else have a good pediatric doc recommendation in fairfax or Arlington county please.

Look up the definition of holistic and educate yourself.

Wow not one holistic doc in network...
May I ask why you didn't consider Dr Razi?

Same question - How soon after birth does one need to have an appt with pediatric doc?

I can only speak for my experience of a healthy baby I was planning to have at home but ended up having in the hospital: For a home birth, McLean Peds wants to see the baby within 48 hours of the birth and then again at 1 week (they like to get a call from the midwife on how baby's doing within a few hours of the birth). For a hospital birth, Dr Evars was there within 24 hours and came at least 2 more times during our 5 day stay - I was grateful for his presence and he got the hospital Drs to back off the unnecessary repeat tests.

Thank you. Did you make an appointment before baby was delivered to establish yourself as a patient? And then called from the hospital?

My pleasure! We had a consult with the office manager in my third trimester and then had them sign some paperwork BirthCare gave us to confirm they'd be our Ped practice. Our daughter ended up being born in hospital and McLean was listed as our daughter's Ped practice on the admitance paperwork. The hospital called them for us - my husband & I were just discussing how we should give McLean a call when Dr Evars walked in the room. The hospital had already alerted him.

Maybe not voodoo, but insurance covers numerous medical interventions that are not evidence-based. I don't see what that has to do with holistic medicine though.

Seems like an old thread but I'm working on the same issue except out in MD. I've chatted with Dr Razzi and would be happy to go with her except that we live in the Wheaton area of Silver Spring. I'd really like to find a great pediatrician out near me that has a holistic approach. Even if we have to get reimbursed by insurance it is ok...of course taking insurance would be a plus! Thanks for any thoughts you have!!

I am looking for a holistic pediatrician as well. I live in the Bowie/Upper Marlboro, MD area but would be willing to travel.

Dumb question: I realize "holistic" can mean many things, but for the purposes of this thread, does it refer solely to vaccine scheduling?

I think that may be part of it, but also willing to explore treating minor illnesses naturally, within reason, and not jumping to antibiotics, etc. Maybe more willing to work with moms trying to breastfeed without pushing formula.

Huh. Well, in that case, I can recommend Dr. Michelle Barnes Marshall. She absolutely supported breastfeeding without being militant about it, and frequently refers mothers to the Breastfeeding Center. She does not jump to prescribing medication. She prescribed my daughter antibiotics once, for a combinations of pneumonia and an ear infection, but has never suggested them for the run-of-the-mill fevers, colds, coughs, and assorted kid illnesses. We love her.

I don't know her attitude on vaccines--I suspect she's not cool with a full "alternative schedule," but might be willing to space out shots if you stayed on the overall schedule. She's very pro-vaccine, though (as she should be).

We had a very negative experience with this doctor. She did not listen to our requests during the visit and threatened to charge us for a test we didn't want to take, even after we repeatedly said we were not interested. She never called, as she said she would, to provide her analysis of blood work.

What does “holistic” have to do with vaccine schedules?

A lot of us would tell you that Docs willing to indulge anti-vax bullsht or label it “holistic” are not good doctors.

They don’t push formula. They push breastfeeding.

This just sounds like all pediatricians. They all push breastfeeding unless the child is at risk, and they all want to avoid antibiotics unless necessary. Whatever you’re really looking for, you’ll probably have to be more specific.
