any word on where fenty's kids will go this year?

They are children - perhaps they were not ready for the change. I think this promise should be an exception

Then I believe Fenty should explain that. Since he made it a campaign issue, he should be the one to say "ya know, we've decided it's better to leave them where they are. As a family matter, we changed our minds."

But to stay silent - especially for a man who lives by the press release - is unwarranted.

This is the poster who wrote to Fenty and Rhee (and never got a response). Let me encourage others who feel that he should let the public know if his children are attending public or private school (again, it doesn't matter to me which) to write him or ask your favorite DC media type to find out.

See your point on transparency. A simple "it's personal" might help depoliticize something he probably shouldn't have politicized in the first place.

Personally, I'd rather know what the {bleep} he actually accomplished for DC while he was in Denver.

I don't really care where he sends his kids but FENTY introduced this topic and FENTY needs to answer for his promise. We should all be sick and tired of politicians who make promises they never keep. Quite frankly, IMHO he should never have made such a promise as its not fair to his kids. They didn't ask him to run. But he did make the promise and he needs to answer it one way opr the other. the silence from him is deafening.

I agree, I wouldn't use my kids' education as a campaign tool, but since he did, he needs to step up disclose whether he lived up to his pledge or not. By the way, today's DC Wire blog in the Post says that Michelle Rhee intends to ask for a meeting with whoever wins the White House to make the case for the DC Schools for their kids. Sounds like she needs to ask for the same kind of meeting with her own boss!

You GO girl! This is why I put more stock in what Rhee does and says in regards to school. I was very skeptical at first. But as a former teacher and a parent with kids in DCPS, she's got more sway ion my opinion of DCPS in my view than Adrian Fenty. I never believed his whole "schools will be great" pitch from the get go.

FWIW- I don't think they go to the same school-if I recall one of the twins has some special development/learning needs--so he may go to a different school than his brother.

They both go to Tots Developmental school, a private school in Shephard Park.-- it ends at 3rd grade and through some sports team records I have seen that they are enrolled there again for 3rd grade.
So there is the answer. No public school for them.

maybe next year? It seems reasonable enough that they would stay the last year although he really should have said something about it.

If I remember correctly, this is right -- and I think this whole thread has been for naught. Fenty promised that he would transition his kids into public school when they completed the last grade offered at their private school. Sounds like 3rd grade is the last year.

The Fenty's did choose to leave their children in the small private school that they have attended for years and will graduate from at the end of this year. I do not recall a campaign promise of moving his kids to DCPS this school year but a promise for them to attend DCPS. It will be interesting to see where they will go next year.
