thanks! |
Yeah, I'm anxious to hear about that as well... given that he publicly vowed to return his kids to DC schools this school year. |
I heard it's going out by text message. Just kidding. Seriously, at this stage, so long as Rhee and/or Reinoso don't pull out, I'm not going to be more or less confident in changes based on Fentys' choice.
Their boys are older (I think) than Rhee's and Reinoso's kids were when they entered DCPS so it doesn't seem analogous. Anyway, I don't envy anyone who has to make a school choice decision about their own children in public like this. |
they were NOT at murch rhis morning! |
I believe that there neighborhood school is West. Does anyone know if they were there? |
He lives near Murch? I thought he lived in Crestwood. |
He does live in Crestwood, and so do I. I don't know anyone in Crestwood who sends their kids to either Powell or West (our two local schools). I hear West is good, but I still don't know anyone in the neighborhood that sends their kids there. |
I live in Crestwood too, and I echo Jeff's statement. I don't know anyone who sends their kids to the local schools. Charters, private, and out-of-boundary. I don't know much about West, but Powell is absolutely abysmal. |
11:16 poster here - Nonetheless, I sincerely hope that Fenty does send his kids to a DC public school this year. I am all for prioritizing your kids' education, but the Mayor keeping his kids out of DC public schools sends a really bad message to residents. |
I'm really surprised that this wasn't in the Washington Post today included with the stories about the first day of school. |
DCPS Day 2: Still wondering where the Fenty twins are enrolled... I wouldn't care so much, except the Mayor SAID the boys would be in DCPS this school year (after they finished 2d grade in their previous school last year). |
Yep, he campaigned on sending his kids to public school. I would note that the private schools don't start until next week. Maybe Mrs. Fenty didn't sign on to the campaign talking points. |
I would imagine that the Fentys would want to draw as little attention as possible to where their children are enrolled, so I'm not surprised this information wasn't featured in any first-day-of-school coverage. Rather than batting this back and forth on a message board, why doesn't someone e-mail Fenty? His address is adrian.fenty@dc.gov. |
Apparently this may well have been the case. Second-hand gossip, but kind of makes sense, no? Wouldn't be the first time Fenty's spontaneity (naivete?) got him into trouble. If she did put her foot down and kept her boys in their current school based on her assessment, I say kudos to her for taking politics out of parenting. They never asked their daddy to run for mayor. Of all the campaign promises, this one should never had made it onto the platform in the first place IMHO. If they aren't in DCPS, I'd have (some) respect for Fenty if he came out and said, "My bad. Shouldn't have gone there without Michelle's OK. This topic is closed." But who knows. (OT-Did anyone think it was odd that Rhee was in Denver?) |
Rhee was at John Eaton this morning. |
