I was induced twice. The first time it didn't work and they sent me home. A few days later we tried again (my body was more ready at that point) and I had my baby vaginally about 12 hours later. |
Induced at 41 weeks +3 days due to low amniotic fluid - first baby. Gave birth vaginally 36 hours after the beginning of the induction (placement of the cervadil) and 24 hours after the initiation of the pitocin. No epi for the first 12 hours of the pitocin - so I walked around, sat in rocking chair, sat on birthing ball, etc. - which I think helped with the success of the induction (also having a patient midwife rather than an impatient care provider). |
I was induced a week early with both of my children and both were delivered vaginally and it went fine. |
My baby did not tolerate the pitocin and his heart rate kept dropping and they would turn off the pitocin and roll me from side to side to increase the heart rate. After this happened three times I was given a csection - it was a little scary. My fear of being induced was that it would lead to csection. The csection recovery was not as bad as I thought and I had no problems nursing but would have preferred to have avoided surgery. |
"Natural" induction--My water broke at 39 weeks, w/ only a few, weak, irregular contraction in the next 8 hours. Took castor oil on the advice of my midwife. Horribly unpleasant diarrhea, but did the trick to get labor going. Was in labor another 24 hours due to baby's head position, but after climbing lots of stairs and doing lunges (REALLY fun during contractions!), had a vaginal delivery of healthy baby boy.
I second the Evening Primrose oil. Started taking it at 37 weeks (don't remember how much, my midwife advised me, but it seemed to be more than 1x per day. I firmly believe it helped ripen my cervix. Good luck! |
Induced with both kids - delivered both vaginally. |
i was induced one day before my due date, because my family was in town but not for long, so i didnt want them to miss not meeting the baby.
started with gel at 10am, pitocin at 4 pm, delivered vaginally at 8 pm |
I asked my OB doctor same questions today since I will do induction next week. She said that induction won't lead to C-section.

Induction with pitocin increases your chances of having a c-section over going into labor without pitocin. I hope your doctor said something more nuanced than you are recalling. |
