Poll re induction and C-section

Anonymous
Am now three days past my due date and contemplating induction next week (at 9 days past) but am hesitant because have read and heard that induction often leads to C-section. If you were induced, can you respond and say whether you delivered vaginally or by C-section? I've already searched and read lots of the threads on pros/cons of induction and am just trying to get a sense of whether my induction = C-section notion is right. Thanks.

Induced after water broke; delivered vaginally.

I was induced after my water broke, but cervix didn't move. I ended up with a c-section.

I just had a scheduled c-section after my OB told me the stats. I have two friends who were induced and had contractions with no dilation for several hours before a section, and one who was induced and everything went perfectly. She had a quick and easy vaginal delivery.

You should know what your Bishop score is before you agree to be induced.

Personally, if it was me I'd just wait for my baby to come on its own instead of being induced or c-section.

I was induced 11 days after my due date. I was not dilated at all when we started. I was able to become fully dilated and pushed for several hours, but stopped making progress and ultimately opted for a c-section. DS was 9 lbs. 11 oz. It is a very difficult decision, I really did not want to be induced, and there is no way to know how things would have turned out if I hadn't been, but in the end I have a happy and healthy little boy. Good luck!

I was induced at 10 days past due. Walked in not dilated. Had vaginal delivery ~24 hours later. No major problems. But they used about every possible technique known to get my labor to progress.

I'll add that if I had to do it again, I might wait a few more days to see if I would start labor naturally. But as your Dr has probably mentioned, waiting too long can be bad for the baby.

I was induced, but the induction was necessary because my water broke and I had no labor activity whatsoever. I had a c-section for failure to descend, I pushed for 2 hours but the baby was malpositioned and essentially got stuck.

Some thoughts for you on the induction - don't let them break your water (it can lead to malpositioning as the baby has less of a cushion to move around in, and also supposedly the contractions can be better tolerated with the bag of waters intact. Also, it puts you on the clock, most doctors will only let you go for X number of hours with broken waters before an automatic c/s). Also, you have a better chance of a successful induction if your cervix is favorable. As the PP mentioned, google Bishop's score.

Good luck!

I was induced. Labor didn't progress for several hours, so I ended up with a c-section.

I was induced and had a vaginal delivery 8 hrs later. It was my first and I was a little naive. I didn't fully understand what was happening at the time, but there were some heart rate issues and I almost had a section.

Not that you asked, but I would not do it the same way again. Induction puts a lot of stress on the baby and makes the contractions more painful.

Good luck!

Induced at 39 weeks due to IUGR. Delivered vaginally after a quick and easy 5 hour labor. My baby was only 5 pounds, however. Not sure that makes a difference. I also had a favorable cervix.

Induced at 12 days post EDD. Never dilated before or after induction and ended up with c/s.

I think it just depends person to person. Sometimes it works...other times not.

A friend of mine was induced at about ten days past her due date and delivered vaginally -- fairly quickly and with no complications.
