OMG I can't believe pediatricians are telling you guys to feed your children gatorade and you're OK with it?

Gatorade got my daughter, uh, moving as well. You do what you have to do. If the child won't drink enough water to accommodate a full dose of the medication, you give them something they will drink. Contrary to what you think may result from drinking Gatorade, my daughter did not become addicted to it, nor did she subsequently develop a sweet tooth. She rarely, if ever, chooses to drink juice. And she hasn't touched Gatorade (again, her choice) since her bout of constipation. Gatorade was effective for the constipation, and kept her hydrated.

Gatorade is not sweet, darling... it's SALTY! It has just too many electrolytes and it messes up with their system!!! If they don't have an electrolyte imbalance it's harmful!!! It's worse than giving pediasure to a child that is not dehydrated. People with high blood pressure are not allowed to drink G. I still can't believe doctors are telling parents to feed it to their healthy children!

The sugar is sucrose-dextrose (not HFCS). There is more sodium in a pretzel rod than in a serving of Gatorade.

We're not talking about college kids drinking redbull to stay awake just yet. We're talking about toddlers drinking HIGH PERFORMANCE ATHLETE'S SUPPLEMENTS. Why can't you give your child water then? No, I'm not surprised to see irresponsible or clueless parents feeding their children this crap. What I'm shocked with is doctors giving such suggestions. Unbelievable!

What we do is offer water and offer water and offer water. But sometimes, especially in the afternoon, I can't get my kids to drink water, they turn it down. I could maybe hold them down and pour water down their throats I guess. Instead, I offer them gatorade or juice, and they say yes to that. So they get water all day long, then once a day, they get a 6 oz glass of gatorade with ice in it. I don't think that is so wrong.

What would you do if your child is constipated and won't drink water? It's not like they are drinking Gatorade day in and day out. It's a way to get a child hydrated and a vehicle for Miralax at a critical time. What do you not understand? constipated?

Not this again, my dd gets bad constipation, so bad that she will get anal fissures from it. I get her miralax and liquids into her any way I can. It's better than looking at blood in the toilet after she sits there straining to poop.

So if she asked to drink clorox would you allow her? WTH???????

Do yo people even know what's in it? Adults should not be drinking it!!! It's for high performance athletes!

So, one substance is for high performance athletes, and one is for toilet bowls. Which is more similar to my toddler? Let's think. Which one is actually human, which one gets a large amount of exercise . . . I don't think the fact that something is designed for someone who is getting exercise makes it suddenly a terrible choice for a toddler.

We are talking 1/2 cup of Gaterade every once in awhile. Get over yourself. Do you have a medical degree and are you well versed in constipation so bad that it causes infections and kidney damage?

If not, shut the hell up. I'm choosing Miralax and Gatorade to keep much more serious health issues at bay.

Too much Gatorade in such a little body can cause kidney stones, you know?

Is there a study to show that 1/2 a cup of gatorade given on occasion causes kidney stones?

Too much poop in my kid's body caused out of control reflux, aspiration pneumonia, and permanently scarred lungs.

My daughter's pediatric nephrologist suggested Gatorade too. And while admittedly she did go to medical school and specializes in kidneys, she must be too busy worrying about permanent kidney damage (that can lead to a kidney transplant) due to grade three kidney reflux to warn me about kidney stones and the sodium content in a drink for “professional athletes”.

I do think I will send her a link to this thread and let her know that a DCUMommy thinks she knows better than she.

Are these toddlers just not eating enough fiber? Drinking enough fluids?

Getting back to Miralax - how long can you use it for? On the box it says to not use for more than 7 days...but I keep giving it to my son for almost 2 weeks now
