How to give 2 yr old miralax

Our 2 yr old daughter has just been prescribed 1/2cap miralax powder once daily to help her with holding, constipation and pain during bm. Our doc said mix it with 4oz of fluid and give it after getting home for the day around 4pm to help with her usual bm time before bed. It's day 3, and we're having trouble getting her to drink more than half of the miralax/juice combo. I'm thinking the problem is that she's not usually not interested in drinking much at this time, because she just had snack and water at school. So my plan is to pre-mix it in the morning, pack it with her lunch and snacks, and ask her teachers to give it to her with her post-nap snack at school. Does anyone know if it's okay to let it sit many hours once it's mixed before drinking it? Does it requiring drinking right after mixing? Will it lose it's effectiveness? Will it change in consistency or get a bad taste?

can you call and ask your dr if she can take fiber vitamins? My dd had a similar issue and the gummy vitamins by fleet really helped.

You can't send medication to a preschool or daycare without having the doctor fill out forms. You'd need to bring in the prescription bottle (with a prescription label, even for an over the counter med) and have the school mix it.

As a preschool teacher, I think that's a lot to ask. Chances are classroom staff wouldn't be able to administer it, so whichever staff member is certified in med administration would need to leave whatever they were doing and come to give her the meds. In addition, if she were to refuse, it puts them in a very difficult position.

Given all that, I don't think it's a reasonable thing to ask. You simply need to make it clear to your daughter that this isn't negotiable. Let her know that play time begins when she's done drinking. If that means she sits and waits a while a few times, you can sit with her and be calm and understanding, but keep the expectation clear.

Can you give it with whatever beverage she has w dinner? It takes a few days to kick in anyway, it's not going to work in 45 min. We gave ours in our dd's milk at dinner.

just mix with apple sauce.

We also did with milk at dinner. One thing I will warn you about is that dosing is a process. My son was prescribed half cap a day, but that resulted in massive diarrhea. We eventually got him regulated on a quarter or less cap every other day.

Ped told us to mix with a small amount of either apple sauce or yogurt. Works like a charm!

My daughter would only drink it with orange Gatorade. We tried everything.

We gave it to our son in his first drink of the morning - slugged it right down. I don't see a problem with sending it to daycare pre-mixed. It doesn't gel up or anything.

As with PP, once he was on it for a week or so, he started to have 4 or 5 bm/day and got a very sore bottom. We cut back to quarter cap every other day, and have now taken him off entirely. It really changed his eating pattern for the better, and I'm sorry that we didn't start him on it sooner.

You can pretty much put it in anything, it's tasteless and almost textureless. So anything she'll eat all of, go for it. I used applesauce, milk, yogurt, juice, ice cream....

Also, Miralax works over a day or two, not a few hours, so you can give it any time of day. It

Give it to our DS with breakfast in juice (the only thing he'll take it in). He chugs it down, when he comes home at night he has a BM right after dinner. Like clockwork. We didn't have to fuss around with the amount 1/2 capful daily. Its not a perscription so I don't see why you child couldn't have it in the daycare. But for us personally seeing him drink it at home, and knowing that he finished it was important. I can see at the preschool them throwing out what she doesn't finished and you might not be getting feedback on how much she had of it and what is working. It does take time to work.
