Just opened our letter--DC is accepted! Excited but stressed re decision because DC is happy at home school even though not challenged.
|
| Opened ours. Daughter got in. So very sorry for all those who are waited listed or didn't get in. Which there was enough space for all! |
| Just opened ours, DS is not accepted. We're not too upset bc we were on the fence about the idea. Congrats to everyone receiving a favorable outcome. |
| Anyone know about appealing? our son's grades were above the median - would just like to know all of the factors that went into the decision. |
| Waitlisted here. Not upset because we're not sure we'd switch schools, but still wanted to try for the option in case this year didn't go well. Congrats to all who were accepted! |
come on. just let it be. you are going to appeal it? you are the reason schools become overly bureaucratic and formal with parents. just let their decision be and teach your son (and yourself) to accept things in life. this won't be the last disappointment |
It said right in the letter all the criteria that were considered ... test scores, center program assessment, 2nd grade report card & 1st semester of 3rd grade, teacher recommendations, and parent recommendation. |
| now i know why this listserv has such a bad reputation. Nothing like the freedom of anonymous posts to bring out the mean. |
| huh? nothing mean in the last few posts. |
I'm sorry. We appealed the year our son was wait-listed (is your DS on the wait-list?), and nothing came of it even after the second round. Like your son, ours had a test score above the median. Very frustrating. |
The appeal process exists for a reason - students should, and do get in on appeal. You are the reason that people become passive and resigned to their fate, rather than driving their own lives and destinies. |
Is he above median in all the subtests? If so, yes that would be very frustrating. |
I agree, and I would certainly appeal in that case, but to be honest I wouldn't really expect to get in off appeal (I don't think test results are, or should be, the only thing they look at). |
Last year I appealed for my DC (to be admitted to HGC) who is highly gifted and was denied in two levels. I ran out of energy to appeal further. I did not stick till the state board level appeal. I wish I had. My DC is suffering from lack of challenge in local school. I know of at least two friends who got through Middle school magnet appeals. So, I suggest you to appeal, however do not stop till you succeed. You got to do what is best for your kid. Please let us know the result so that others learn from your experience. |
