And, if accepted, whether you can tour the school first?
TIA |
|
OK, so I just found this:
http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/curriculum/specialprograms/elementary/applications.aspx This suggests, unless I am reading it wrong, that letters will be mailed in the next couple of days if they haven't been already. Has anyone received one yet? |
The year our child applied, letters were sent in April. There was an orientation for accepted students, and we had a few weeks to decide (if I recall correctly). |
| Thank you. I thought it was supposed to be April, the February date in the link above has flipped me out! |
They just added the February date recently, so maybe they're changing when they send the letters. I checked the site the other day and that info was not posted. |
| Last year they came earlier than we expected..but I can't remember when that was |
| Wow. Yep, at the meetings they were saying the decision was going to be in april. Seeing february on the web page made my stomach go all nervous. The wait has been so long from application to decision. I've spent alot of time convincing myself that no matter which way it turns out it will be fine, but I can't imagine that moment of opening the envelope. I know, I know.... |
| Oh, it's such a horrible process. Necessary but horrible. My older kid got in and the next year the younger one did not. now THAT was awful. Of course, we didn't let him see but it's so hard not to feel angry and rejected. |
Did he not know that he applied? You didn't let him see what? Our elder one did not get into the HGC, but our younger one did. They both got into middle school magnets and the elder one is headed for a high school magnet in the fall - so clearly is qualified for these programs. I still feel bad about our elder one, all these years later - I see how well-prepared our younger one was for middle school. Such a contrast to her older sibling's experience, which was ok but nothing compared to the HGC. The difference in learning how to write, especially, is very significant. |
| When letters are mailed, is it the standard thick letter accepted, thin letter rejected? |
| Does the home school find out before the parents? |
| The person who manages the school's portion of the application for our school (the reading specialist) told me that the parents tend to find out first. |
| My child's teacher last year asked us if she got a spot so I don't they know..but if they have been around a while they probably can pretty much guess. |
| I was told by our principal that the principal finds out a day before the family. |
|
In terms of logistics, last year folks had a pretty short amount of time to decide; I think 2 weeks for original acceptances, but my memory could be off.
Child was accepted off wait list and we had one week to decide. Families can tour the school. |
