The cheese is smoking hot though -- you don't need to worry about it being unpasteurized. |

You can say you just had a massage or acupuncture and they recommended you not drink any alcohol for 24 hrs after (which they usually do). Or you could say you are doing a cleanse, though if you eat the fondue not sure if that would fly. (Or if that would be so far out of character for you it would raise more eyebrows).
In the early stages often my husband and I will both order a glass of wine and he will just take turns drinking his and mine (assuming we are sitting next to each other). Or I will occasionally hold it so people won't see me not touching it. We've also done it where HE didn't order any wine and I did, but he just sipped from mine discreetly. My friends are the type to know right away I am pregnant if I'm not drinking. Having been first trimester pregnant many times (5 late first trimester miscarriages) I've both dealt with this a lot and am very hesitant to tell people until we know the pregnancy will stick. This time I am trying to lay low until we are well into the second trimester. If you go, I hope you enjoy! |
| I was going to suggest exactly what 12:57 said about sharing/swapping drinks with DH. Also, you could, if the venue allows, hop up with your wine glass full, go somewhere and either pour some out or ask a waiter to replace it with apple juice and ask them to keep your top secret secret. |
| I don't drink that much, and especially don't drink beer--went to watch a football game with my friends at a bar and didn't drink and at the next party, the birthday boy yelled out, are you pregnant??? so not sure there is too much you can do, especially if they are good friends. Perhaps try ordering sparkling cider out of everyone's earshot? |
| Say you gave blood that day and they advised you not to drink for 24 hours. |

Second 12:57 suggestion. Sit next to your DH and have him alternate between drinking from your glass and his. And then you'll obviously have to be the one who drives the two of you home!

I'm sure they are not using unpasteurized cheese in fondue, but it's RAW cheese you need to worry about, which trust me, is very hard to find here in the US. You'll be fine n |
| Before I told people I drank seltzer with olives - looked like a cocktail. I also offered to buy the round for friends, so I could go to the bar and get it myself. Start with one of those, then just sip it, and get water during dinner. |
