Looks like a good book.... However, as I read the reviews, I think the author -defining the affluent as HHI of $120,000 or more - would feel the local area kids with their helicopter landing pads are in a different league altogether, wayyyy over the top with a hangglider....

I think that the PPs who wrote that you live your values have it right.
If you yourself MUST have that Louis Vuitton handbag, and cannot bear to be seen with anything less, it doesn't matter whether you drag your kid to a soup kitchen every once in a while. But if you, for example, drive an old car, like the father of one of the PPs friend's, you are sending the message that you are not defined solely by what you have and show.
