He starts many performances with a question and Whitney Houston is just one of many who died within the past 48 hours.

He has yelled that at every concert of his I've been too (easily a dozen...)

The grammys just remind me how crappy the music industry has become. Yes, every so many years there is a breakout album like Adele, but it's largely a wasteland of kinda ok stuff.

Bring back the rock gods, the punks, or whatever is meant to replace them. Don't take yesterday's shoe gazer band and turn them into the next piano rock Coldplay ripoff or worse yet give them a banjo and an accordion and tell me it's new.

I take it you're Catholic?

Different pp here. I'm NOT catholic and I found it a little offensive.

But I already hated Nicki Minaj, so no matter what she did, I"m sure I wouldn't have liked it.

Also someone posted this on fb about Chris Brown and the Grammys. My favorite highlight

“We’re glad to have him back,” said executive producer Ken Ehrlich. “I think people deserve a second chance, you know. If you’ll note, he has not been on the Grammys for the past few years and it may have taken us a while to kind of get over the fact that we were the victim of what happened.”

Music sales are half of what they were 10 years ago. Your grandpa is right.

Come on now you know music sales have taken a hit for other reasons...

Not just piracy. The real hit is self-inflicted. The labels pursued a formula of hit singles instread of developing album content. Now because of apple, people can buy all singles. Nobody buys a whole album to get one or two hit songs anymore. And artist development is now a total clusterfuck. The downsizing of the labels caused so many artists to get dumped and so many more to be neglected. I worked in antipiracy. Piracy is not the only issue.

Underwhelmed by Grammys. Way too much country/old rock stars. Nice to honor them, but come on!

Bruce Springsteen-Not a fan. While I can appreciate his music, he's definitely not Grammy-opening worthy anymore.
Bruno Mars-Absolutely LOVE him. He's such a fantastic performer and singer. Modern day Frankie Lymon.
Alicia/Bonnie-Really liked it.
Rihanna/Coldplay-Enjoyed that too. Wished Rihanna had done another song for her solo though. Not the best choice to showcase her voice.
Taylor Swift- She's okay and I like a few of her songs, but I'm just not getting the love affair that America has with her. That definitely wasn't a standing-ovation performance. She should thank Kanye everyday for her fame.
Chris Brown-Pretty good. He basically was there to dance and say what you want, but the boy is a fantastic dancer. Wish I had that much energy/flexibility.
Beach Boys-Maroon 5 was fantastic. The Beach Boys themselves......
Paul McCartney-Just......ugh.
Various rock/country singers-Double ugh.
Katie Perry-Just okay. Nothing great. Wished she had sang something more "pop". This was an angry rock song.
Nicki Minaj-Absolutely loved it. Loved the creativity of her video too. Enjoyed it immensely.
Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, et al-.................. BUT, the "Deadmouse" DJ guy sounded awesome.

A few other points:

-No recognition of Don Cornelius and Etta James on the video montage of deceased entertainers? Very tacky.

-Wasn't impressed with Jennifer Hudson singing the Whitney tribute. And her body shape was very weird in that dress. It was a touching tribute...just didn't enjoy Hudson singing it.

-Finally, WTF is the hype with Adele? Is it a British thing? I mean the girl can sing and I love about 4 of her songs, but seriously...what is the deal? While she sings well, there are other singers out there with her range and better (Aguilera, Celine, Hudson, Mariah, etc). Seriously...is it all about the triumph after a break-up? We get it America...you're embracing an overweight "pop" singer. This just seems like overkill. Was also not overly impressed with her singing tonight. She sounded off key and flat leading into the chorus throughout the song.

Overall: The Grammys were a snore. Thought I was watching the Country Music Awards for a second.

Adele deserves the accolades, IMO.

Adele is awesome, and it has nothing to do with her weight
I thought Rihanna looked great, a little like Farah, but she looked great
WHY WHY WHY is Kelly Osborne grey?? And why hasn't anyone mentioned that? It's bugging the shit out of me

If you want the best music, you have to look for it. Satellite and internet radio are making it easier to find new music. Don't expect the music industry to hand deliver it all to you.

-Someone who doesn't listen to much mainstream music
