My daughter HATES having her hair washed!

Anonymous
Mine doesn't like it so I focus on rinsing the hair with water and then using conditioner. It doesn't get as clean but it's easier to brush out and stay clean.

After the shower, I let her brush my hair and then I brush her hair. She has learned to brush my hair the same way I brush hers - start at the bottom, then the middle down, then from the top down. Then she uses my microfiber scrunchies to get excess water out

She's more than half my size so strong-arming her is not an option (as my hubby has advised). I cut off TV, the Ipad, everything. Offered candy, the works. We haven't left the house all damn day because of this. I don't want her to win this battle but I'm at the end of my rope. And advice for getting an extremely strong willed girl to do what she needs to do?

Many days I feel like I'm the only one with this kind of daughter. I love her, but damn is she frusterating!! Please, tell me there are others out there, and please give any advice possible!

Take her to Hair Cuttery, shampoo and cut her hair short so it's easier for you.

Cut her hair into a Suri Cuise circa age 6 bob

you can get an inflatable basin on amazon that is kind of a substitute for a salon sink. or try using a handheld shower nozzle. also minimize the shampoo to minimize the rinsing.

This has gotten a lot better but one thing that really helped is a stack of cloth diapers. So I could just hand her a dry one if water dared to touch the face.

We used a small towel on face and a hand held shower.

I was also going to suggest a shower tray so you could wash her hair the way they do it at the salon and make it a more relaxing experience.

My 3 year old is like this, maybe worse, and has been this way since infancy. Her cradle cap got out of control bad when she was a baby because I could only manage to wash her hair about once every 3 months because of the hysterical screaming and thrashing.

At 18 months I started cutting her hair into a short bob, and I kept it that way for years until she started to let me wash it. WHY are you keeping long hair on a kid who hates hair management? That’s unnecessary torture for both of you.

Whoa, the original post was from January 2012, almost 13 years ago, so the girl described in it would be about 17 now.

Can she wear goggles when you wash her hair?

We used sports bottle type squirt and always a wash cloth over eyes. Once they child can sit continued the same but got the caps or visors. Use limited amountof shampoo and no big water dumps. Wet head with wet warm washcloth. My biggest shampoo challenged kid had the longest hair. My spouse soaps up the GC head/s as if the hair had rolled in mud. Was raely a participant in bathing our kids due to work schedule and on those occasions often got a critique.

So OP needs to assess not just how s/he does it but all it taakes is a couple of dumper types on their head to create a problem.

Is there any chance here they could be acting out as a result of their dissatisfaction with their assigned gender?

Have you asked them, or had them evaluated by a professional in this area?

Cut her hair. Get rid of the issue.
