First of all, the children and grandchildren of immigrants lose their native language and adopt English. The Washington Post recently published an article about how hard immigrants work to make sure their children grow up bilingual and usually they find it a losing battle against the influence of English. See this link:.

not anymore
the world has grown 'smaller'
Children of immigrants can skype to grandparents and relatives back home, fly for the holidays, watch movies in their native language. Many attend Saturday classes to maintain their own language.
This is a good thing. America needs speakers of other languages

Wut the..? How come they got English AND Mexican here on this computer? America is for ENGLISH ONLEY!!

As of 2010, Hispanics accounted for 16.3% of the national population, or around 50.5 million people. The Hispanic growth rate over the April 1, 2000 to July 1, 2007 period was 28.7% — about four times the rate of the nation's total population (at 7.2%).[30] The growth rate from July 1, 2005 to July 1, 2006 alone was 3.4%[31] — about three and a half times the rate of the nation's total population (at 1.0%).[30] The projected Hispanic population of the United States for July 1, 2050 is 132.8 million people, or 30.2% of the nation's total projected population on that date.[32]

Sorry, people aren't "illegal". Any more than people who exceed the speed limit are "illegals".

We've got plenty of room in the US. We should be encouraging more immigration, not less. Especially given that the people who manage to make it here are usually more resourceful and hard-working than any native born American.

This is how we refresh our entrepreneurial blood.

All I can say to Republicants is to make nice with Hispanics or prepare to lose over and over again. Maybe not this election, but it's coming.

Where the white women at?

OP,

I grew up in the midwest. White. Mothers side can be traced back to the Mayflower. Yippee skippy. I learned Spanish and French, but not well enough to be fluent. I've traveled to over 15 other nations on every continent but Antarctica. Every other country I've been to has signs in multiple languages. Their people can easily speak 3-5 other languages. WTF crawled up your butt that made you think the US should be English only? And why do you think other nations only speak one language, because it clearly is not true.

FWIW, the reason I don't speak French or Spanish fluently is because I was never able to practice it outside of the classroom. Having more speakers of other languages gives students more opportunities to practice their new skills.

OP, maybe you should check out that most of our Presidents were multi-lingual.

The need to glorify one's language, one's country, one's religion shows what: patriotism and self-confidence or a severe sense of insecurity?

Only Florida and Texas. And Texas is going to lose ground with them due to this redistricting fight. It screws Hispanics over.
