| I usually hate such places, but CityZen lived up to it's height for me. |
| Er, that should be "hype", not height. |

Granville Moore's--for mussels.
Komi--must plan for this one. Ben's Chili Bowl-- I just love the chili cheese fries. 2 Amy's-- yummy pizza (but I also like the pizza at Sette in Dupont, though this completely depends on the pizziaolo working). Taqueria Distrito Federal--it's a little dive-y if you're cool with that. Kushi--something different and very hip/young/fun. Ray's Hell Burger--Obama went, so don't we all have to? It's actually quite good. Cork--wine bars are a bit played out but I enjoy the atmosphere and have always had an easy meal here. Birch & Barley-- it was the toast of the town when it opened, it's pretty fun and a nice price point for the meal. PS7's-- love eating at the bar/lounge area. Amazing cocktails! |
I like this list (with the exception of Cork, which I find to be overrated). I'd add Palena Cafe for roast chicken, the best burger in the city, and other great casual dishes. And to the poster who claims her home cooking is as good as Komi, CityZen, Citronelle, et al. - far be it for me to call you a liar, but . . . well, that's complete BS. If you're so talented, please get a job in a restaurant so the rest of us aren't deprived of access to your cooking. Otherwise, if you have nothing to contribute, feel free to not contribute. |
I did not say my cooking tastes just the same as at these restaurants, only that my cooking tastes "as good" to me, enough that I don't need to pay those prices to get the same amount of enjoyment. This is all subjective, obviously. I was replying to the postrer who said to me that for me it was all about money and not about food. No, I enjoy good food, but I don't have to pay ridiculous prices to do so. |
Just so you know, if you like eating this crap, your cooking must be pretty disgusting too. Sorry if the truth hurts. You could have named a dozen places that are cheaper than these chains and where you are getting better value for money because you're not paying just for loads of starch, sugar (and a few wilted vegetables if you're lucky), so you obviously don't have a clue. |
| Ruby Tuesday reheats prepared food. It's not cooking. |

Um, no (and I'm a Democrat). We took the kids to this place called Serendipity in NYC because so many people recommended it. Most disgusting, overpriced meal we ever had for which we waited (I kid you not) 3 hours. Later we found out that it's a huge hit because High School Musical or some other group along those lines was filmed there, or something. |
Actually, no you didn't. What you said was:
Which is, of course, ridiculous. |

Mandalay -- Burmese restaurant in Silver Spring
Negril -- Jamaican takeout chain, there's one in Silver Spring Joe's Noodle House on Rockville Pike Fasika's |
Haha, Serendipity has been around for A LOT longer than that and it's not popular because of High School Musical. Also, only get dessert there, NEVER food. Frozen hot chocolate, in fact... And the burger is pretty good at Ray's Hell Burger! For the record BGR and all these burger places, there is no consensus on one being better than the other. In fact, I think they are all pretty inconsistent and it's a problem. I just happen to always get good burgers at Ray's-- I have had really shitty burgers at BGR and EVEN SHITTIER burgers at Good Stuff Eatery. |

I do think city zen is worth the hype, but only if your on the adventurous side with food and would be going for the tasting menu. If you are more of a high end steak joint type, it might not be for you.
As for local dives, the Greek Deli is a must. |
Only open like 10-4 on weekdays, though! Parthenon in Chevy Chase isn't bad for traditional Greek that your parents and grandparents would love, too! It reminds me of the Greek places we went when I was a little kid. |
| OMG-someone mentioned Kushi and I can't believe I didn't post that one-pricey but an incredible experience overall. Worth every penny. |
