Did my Wife LIE about how long cats will live?

Anonymous
No way would I have gotten rid of my cats when I got married. When I adopted them from the shelter, I made a commitment to care for them for the rest of their lives-- not just to care for them until it became inconvenient. If the wife was insisting on getting NEW cats, that would be 'walking over the husband." She's just seeing through her commitment to the ones that she had prior to marrying him and I would hope that he can respect that. And all of my cats died between 14-17 years, so I doubt he has that much longer to deal with it. If I can take a birth control pill every day to save my husband and I the hassle of having a baby, then my husband can take an allergy pill to handle the hassle of a cat.

I was looking around the internet and started seeing that cats are living up to 21 years old. Did she lie to me?

I knew someone whose cats lives to be 29 and the other was 32. Yeah, I think she lied.

she lied.

get rid of the cats and the bitch.

I had a cat live to 21. But this is like having a grandparent live to 101--sure it happens, but it is not the norm.

.

OMG! Are you serious? I hope not! Does that mean that someone who is 92y old will not die anytime soon?

I'm not the pp quoted, but she's right. And yes a 92 year old woman will on average live to 96.

where did you get this info from? The table the other pp posted is not working....

Am I the only one mildly disturbed at one poster's interest in the imminent death of a 92 year old?

What a poor comparison. Clearly you have no compassion for someone suffering from allergies. Amazing you found someone to marry you with that unpleasant attitude.

Fuck, I was hoping mine would be dying soon. She is 13 and is healthy as can be. She shows no sign of age. I'm sure she will live to 25. I hate the litter!!

If a pill handled cat allergies, that would be great. But for many of us it does not. When you go around coughing and wheezing, you get chest infections. I had to break up with a girlfriend over a cat. Thankfully we were only one year into a relationship. It basically blew up when we moved in together, because I was wheezing daily. I would not have expected her to get rid of the cat, but then I wasn't going to marry her, either.

http://www.ssa.gov/oact/STATS/table4c6.html

A 92 year old only has a 20% chance of dying during that year. Their life expectancy at 92 is 96.
However, at 117 years, you have an 80% chance of dying in the last year. Very, very few people have lived longer than that.

Interesting! I didn't know that. My grandmother died at 93, so I guess it puts her amongst the unlucky 20%.

I'm no doctor, but do people (adults in particular) just "get over" allergies? I'm calling fraud on the allergies! I am always suspicious of people who are "allergic" to cats simply because they happened to sneeze once whilst in the vicinity of a cat. Is it even possible to get over allergies?

However I am in the camp of people who thought a cat's average life expectancy is 10-15 years, with 15 being in senile old grandpa category. I used to pet sit occasionally for some neighbors who claimed their cat was 22 (and he seemed old and decrepit) but I thought they were exaggerating his age. Hmm, maybe not.
