If your baby had a deep cut that required stitches or glue, did it leave a scar?

I used dermalmd scar treatment serum on my son's scar on his eyebrow from when he had stitches. I think it worked great. My son's scar has since faded and the hair is starting to regrow over the spot so it's no longer obvious. I credit dermalmd for helping the scar to heal so well. It does take some effort to rub it in so the purple goes away, but I think the extra rubbing/massage of the scar tissue is what helped up have great results.

Stitches aren’t glue. Stitches scar, glue probably won’t.
I had a huge cut on my finger and basically held it together with tight bandages (sort of similar to glue) - no scar at all upon healing. Healing takes a long while but your body seems to put things back together nicely.
I’m surprised that glue would hold something together on the face though with no stitches? That’s some strong glue.

Oh my gosh

My 13 month old crawled right into the corner of a bed and got a deep cut right between his eyes. I immediately took him to the doctor where they glued it together. This happened about two weeks ago and it looks really red and sore. It is so noticeable. I am really worried about scaring. I am using mederma about 5 times a day. If your baby had a deep cut, did it eventually heal or did it leave a scar? Thanks.

DS2 did the exact same thing when he was 14MO (pretty sure my bedroom furniture is out for my kids, DS1 has a scar on his cheek from our nightstand!) and he’s now 2YO. The cut was bad, but the dr glued it saying the trauma of holding him down, needles and stitches would be worse than the scar from glue. I wasn’t as religious about Mederma so it’s probably more noticeable than it would have been, but it’s still a pretty noticeable “crater” between his eyes.

On top of the Mederma, be vigilant with sunscreen too.

Yes, twice! Once at daycare, and once falling onto a coffee table (not our house, so no child proofing).
There are two tiny scars on his face that you notice if you are looking for them.

DS got a Harry Potter cut about 6 mo ago. It has faded into a white line. I got a bad cut under my eye as a kid. At 42 there is still a mark. I think there will always be a mark op, but it won’t be as angry looking and just be part of the terrain of your child’s face. Try not to worry about it.

Put Mederma and sunscreen on every day. My son’s is very slightly noticeable but subtle. He is 10 now.

Agreed- op my concern is the glue. On my 3 yo son’s forehead we were told stitches bc the area has too much tension for glue. Maybe due to the age of your child they did glue?

Sunscreen and avoiding sun exposure. That’s the biggest factor in scarring. My daughter had stitches on her face and I was fanatical about hats. A year later and I can hardly see the scar. And it looked really purple and angry in the early days. I had a hard time believing it would go away. It will be ok OP!

I posted awhile back about my toddler burning herself on pizza. I was purple and angry and we can barely see it now (about 5 mos later). We are careful about sunscreen. The derm told us if it heals red or pink (not white) and is flat or raised (not indented) lasar treatment would be an option down the road.

This post obviously resurrected by shills for "dermalmd" or whatever

I was told by a dr that if your kid ever gets stitches in ER, demand to see a plastic surgeon. At a minimum you should take your kid to a plastic surgeon asap after getting another dr to do the stitches if they are somewhere on the face.

I heard that they put massive pressure on you to let the ER doc do it. They'll tell you that if you ask for a PS, you'll get a newbie resident etc, no PS available, etc.

I remember your post! People really attacked your lack of oversight.
