I've rarely had insurance as an adult, costs too much and covers nothing until you pay a huge deductible and then covers 80 percent or whatever. I'd rather put that money in an HAS.
The "guaranteed issue" provisions don't take effect until 2014, except for children. The new law did provide funding for pre-existing condition plans (e.g., high risk pools), but as the OP noted, they are pricey.
