It shouldn't be offensive to the Jews, it ought to be offensive to the Germans who might be sick of hearing it by now.

It's usually offensive to both groups-- to Jews because taking it out of serious context trivializes our suffering and to Germans who probably are "sick of hearing it", though in itself that's not a good reason to stop saying it. More to the point, it's not really polite to bring it up when the context doesn't call for it.

Give it a rest. Your grandparents may have suffered, but you cheapen their suffering by assuming ownership.

I get annoyed at anybody who creates their own drama out of somebody else's suffering. My mom is guilty of this, although in her case the Holocaust has nothing to do with it.
