Could the Grocery Gestapo give it a rest already?

Hey, if I have to drive along Jefferson Davis highway every time I venture out to the burbs, I'm keeping nursing nazi and grocery gestapo!

Yes-- what's with the perpetual Dixie thing? How is that OK?

I'm Jewish and the grandchild of holocaust survivors, and I don't find Gestapo offensive in the way PP has used it. If my credentials aren't good enough, Jerry Seinfeld is Jewish too and he's OK with soup Nazi. I'm kind of jealous of you people who don't have anything bigger to get their panties in a wad about.

I have relatives who died in Auschwitz and I don't find gestapo or nazi offensive.

Christ, can't we give it a rest? Is there no aspect of grocery shopping that is safe from the prying eyes of Negative Nancies? I'm sorry my toddlers sticky hands got on your Subaru. I swear it won't happen again. And I won't reach behind to take the late expiration date milk again. But please, grocery shopping used to be fun. I used to look forward to it. For the love of god!

No one has forced you to read or follow the posts, right, PP? Just chime in when you wish, with constructive input, and ignore the rest.

haaha. what could possibly be constructive about corn buying etiquette and fruit sampling bashing?

Not that someone like you will care a whit. But on the off chance you possess any sensitivity.

PP, you are ridiculous! Political correctness has gone way beyond extreme. FYI, I love "feminazi breastfeeding moms." It describes them so well. I also like "Grocery Gestapo" and will now use this term. Thanks, OP, and for what's it worth, I agree with you.

AMEN PP. I complete agree about the PCness going too far. I found Grocery Store Gestapo hilarious and yes, I called those lactation gurus at the hospital "Breast Feeding Nazi's" quite often (and I'm Jewish). The lactation folks at my hospital were bad shit obsessive crazy.

She wishes! She chimed! As for constructive, I do not believe that the listed posts were in any way constructive. They were entirely critical.

Rush Limbaugh likes to overuse the word Nazi.

It shouldn't be offensive to the Jews, it ought to be offensive to the Germans who might be sick of hearing it by now.

It's usually offensive to both groups-- to Jews because taking it out of serious context trivializes our suffering and to Germans who probably are "sick of hearing it", though in itself that's not a good reason to stop saying it. More to the point, it's not really polite to bring it up when the context doesn't call for it.

Ii continues to be on of the most heinous examples of human suffering. But the reference of the man Hitler continues to be my go to fodder represent a an ideology or a process of treating other human beings in a de-humanizing way--I think there are many modern parallels of hitler and his ideolgy. The use of his image is always ironic when used in an intelligent way. Which means Limbaugh and his ilk can NEVER refer to hitler or nazis, basically.

But I thought we were supposed to continue to remind any and all groups of any criminal activity or heinous acts committed by their ancestors.

And yet you won't bat an eye at the Washington Monument or the Jefferson Memorial. After all, they were really nice-guy slave owners.

OP here. You've posted something like this for years, every time someone mentions Hitler, the Holocaust, Nazis or anything having to do with them in an ironic or less than oh-so-solemn-and-reverent way. Sorry, you don't speak for me (a Jew) and you don't speak for all Jews or for the families of Holocaust survivors. In fact, you do us all a huge disservice because you present the image that that Jews speak monolithically (which we don't) and that we have no sense of humor (which we obviously do) and that the Holocaust is some sort of sacred cow, above and beyond any other tragedy (it is not) and cannot be the source of any humor, irony, or mockery. You do not speak for me, you do not speak for mt family, you do not have the right to speak for the Jewish community, or declare others insensitive simply because they do not share YOUR values, which are yours alone. You have been told this many times before. You constantly derail threads with this point of view, and you are tedious. Get a life, and grow up.

Applause for 8:10. ITA.

I got interested, and discovered many scholarly studies of "Holocaust Humor": http://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&q=humor+nazi+jewish+holocaust+joke+funny+taboo&btnG=Search&as_sdt=1,9&as_ylo=&as_vis=0
