This is us. We bought a van soon after DS1 was born - we had planned to buy before he came, but he was 4 weeks early. We knew we wanted more children, plus room to pick up family at the airport when they visit, and room for luggage and toys on roadtrips. When he was 2, I was 3 months pregnant. You probably couldn't tell yet. We only buy a new car every 6 years. BTW, love the sliding doors. And frabkly, I don't care what you think of me and my minivan. You really need to get a life. |
| I don't really care what people drive. If they want a minivan,so be it. I do think it's funny that people jump all over anyone buying an SUV under any circumstances, yet it's ok to buy a minivan whether you"need" one or not. DCUM is a strange place. |
Aren't you hostile. so upset over one spelling error on an anonymous forum Who are you? Defender of the Minivan? Where's your cape? |
| That they are planning on more kids. |
who cares? get a life. |
| I would think that they are planning to have more kids and are a lot smarter than DH and I. We have one now and a small SUV, which we thought was plenty of room (this is after driving two-door cars for several years). By the time you put the stroller in the back, you can hardly fit anything else. And when we have a second, we won't be able to have another adult (ie grandparent) join us. In retrospect, I would have bought a larger SUV or minivan the first time around. |
| OP here. Thank you for all the different perspectives. This got a lot of panties in a bunch, and really without reason. There was no judgment in my original question. My friend, whom this post was about, was simply wondering. She thought maybe everyone hated on her b/c it was so unenvironmental. She'll be glad to hear that many people are in the same situation for many different reasons, and that overall, no one really cares about her business. Have a good day! |
| Well, I wouldn't think anything. But since you brought it up I'd say they are either planning a larger family, or maybe one parents is SAH and drives around a lot of other kids too, or maybe they just like it and got a good deal. Whatever. |
Unenvironmental? Uh. okay. I'm a lib greenie (we have one car, a prius, and one kid) but this is the last thing I'd think when a family of three gets a minivan. Minivans (generally) can be MUCH more fuel efficient than their SUV brethren (even the hybrid, small SUVs). |

"We only buy a new car every 6 years. "
Ours are both over 10 years old (and neither is a minivan )

LOL here we go again. I have a big SUV because I wanted one. |
| This is a dumb question, but we are so far a 1 child family w/a minivan, but we have a large dog, travel often, nice to be able to visit parents/in-laws and all go places in one car, also we planned to pay off the minivan before kid #2 is born (when that happens) and drive the car until it literally falls apart. Does that answer your question? |
