Anyone yet hear the results of the Annandale boundary study vote tonight?

Stuart HS fared well. It didn't have to give up Sleepy Hollow Woods to Falls Church HS, which was proposed in one of the four options this spring. Nor did it have to pick up lower-income areas in the eastern part of Annandale HS's attendance area.

It did pick up Columbia Pines, a middle-class neighborhood that's bounced around in recent years from Annandale HS to Falls Church HS and now Stuart.

I have yet to see a house in WF that would sell in the 400s. Mine is one of the smaller houses in the neighborhood and it was just appriased at 550 (before the redistricting.)

This house has been for sale for almost 2 years - at one point it was 425K

That house is a foreclosure and the problem is a bad bank, the house is great. So many people have made great offers, but the bank just sits on it.

As for the person who says they have never seen a house sell in the 400s, you obviously have not been looking. Several in the last year have sold in the 400s or very low 500s. A couple of foreclosures too. Nothing off Duncan (and not chapel square) sells in the 500s unless it is one of the huge homes on large lots.

Fairfax County School Board Approves Boundary Adjustments in Annandale Area

The Fairfax County School Board has approved adjustments to school attendance areas in the Annandale area of the county that establishes an attendance area for a new elementary school at the Lacey site and reduces overcrowding at Annandale High School.

The new elementary school at 3705 Crest Drive in Annandale, scheduled to open in September 2012, will offer kindergarten through fifth grade and will encompass portions of attendance areas currently established for Annandale Terrace, Beech Tree, Belvedere and Woodburn Elementary Schools. These boundary changes will take effect in the 2012-13 school year.

Overcrowding at Annandale High School will be relieved with gradual boundary changes that will—over time—shift a portion of the Wakefield Forest Elementary attendance area to Woodson High and the entire Bren Mar Park Elementary attendance area to Edison High. These changes will begin in the 2012-13 school year with rising ninth grade students and continue through the 2016-17 school year.

The School Board also approved additional elementary, middle, and high school boundary readjustments to balance enrollment, including portions of attendance areas:

· from Annandale Terrace Elementary to Woodburn Elementary.

· from Poe Middle to Frost, Holmes, and Jackson Middle schools.

The School Board also approved amendments to staff recommendations, including:

· the retention of the current Pine Spring Elementary School attendance areas at all levels at Jackson Middle School and Falls Church High School.

· the assignment of the Columbia Pines subdivision to Glasgow Middle and Stuart High School, effective with rising sixth and ninth grade students in school year 2012-13.

· The retention of the Barcroft Knolls, Overlook Knolls, and the Dean subdivisions in the Belvedere Elementary School attendance area.

The School Board voted to approve Advanced Academic Program (AAP) center reassignments to align with the new school boundary changes, retain the AAP center at Glasgow Middle School, and authorize the use of existing bond reserve funding to install a modular addition at Frost Middle School to address projected capacity issues until Frost is renovated.

The School Board’s action culminates an extensive boundary process that began in spring 2010 with its approval of the scope and study of the Annandale Regional Planning Study, the appointment of an ad hoc committee representing 27 elementary, middle, high, and secondary schools. The process included extensive community input via dialogue meetings, online surveys, and a public hearing.

The recent decisions won't have much impact on Jackson or Falls Church. You can get the details on the School Board's web site (look for the agenda item for the July 28th meeting):

There were some neighborhoods previously assigned to Poe that will be reassigned to Jackson, and vice versa (staff had also proposed to move a neighborhood currently assigned to Jackson to Glasgow, but the School Board decided to keep that neighborhood at Jackson).

The only impact on Falls Church HS is that the Columbia Pines neighborhood in Annandale that is currently assigned to Poe and Falls Church will move to Glasgow and Stuart.
