we have a fossilized stinkbug that I guess just died on the bathroom window (it's on the outside window) and it's been there for about 3 months now. It's our new pet. Every morning, my two sons (almost 2 and almost 4) go to the bathroom and say "hi stinkbug" and when we leave the house for the day, they run to the bathroom and say "bye stinkbug-bye"

We took my 3 year old to see Winnie the Pooh today. He calls it "Bunny the Pooh." During the previews, he loudly said "Why don't they have a remote control so they can fast forward to the movie?"

I'll be the evil DCUM for the day . . . I don't find any of these stories particularly cute. Maybe my expectations were too high. Maybe it is the fact that my kid is the cutest (!). . . but generally speaking, I don't really find other folks' kids to be particularly interesting/appealing (others must know how that works, right?).

I swear I am a nice person, though!

If you can't enjoy the simple things in life, 21:11, you must be an insufferable person.

One night, the kids were all being particularly whiny, the house was particularly messy, and my husband was on an extended trip for work. I had made a smoothie for dessert, and was passing out cups of it to the kids, when my 4 year old daughter whined, "Not for me! I don't want any!"

I gave her The Look and said, "You know you don't talk that way! Now speak properly!"

She blinked, composed herself, thought carefully, and said, "Mommy, may you please spank my bottom?"

Today my 7 yr old boy came home from a birthday party and took off his shoes and socks. He mindlessly started swinging the socks around while standing in front of the TV. he was spraying water everywhere so I asked him to stop. He said "it's because my feet are sweaty."

When he was 4 we stopped at a convenience store for a corndog, his favorite lunch treat. He wasn't watching where he was going and knocked over a rack of chips. I said 'oh for the love of Pete, pay attention!" We left and walked down the street during a hard rain. His little brother was walking fairly slow so the older boy said "For the love of pete hurry up before we get rained on!" Another block later he looks at me and said "You sure do love Pete." I knew what he was talking about but wanted to hear it in his own words so I said "Who's Pete?" He said "You know, Pete Sake!" So funny! I told my friend and she sang that little song...Janie and Pete sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-ing...which just made it funnier (to me.)

I took my boys to the swimming pool and we used a family changing room to get dressed. The 4 yr old noticed someone had left the toilet seat up. I said "do you think a boy did that?" He said "Yes, a boy who doesn't listen to his mother!" Priceless.

I took my three year old twins to a museum and they didn't want to leave when it was time to go so I pretended I was leaving and waved and said "Bye! I'm leaving now." One said "Bye see you later" and the other said "Have a nice time!" Totally backfired on me.
