This Brooklyn boy (Leiby Kletzky) approached a man, or the man approached him.
I tell my kids to avoid men at all costs when in need. YES it IS sexist, but I want my kids to survive.

This child was a Hasidic jew, as was the killer. It was the first time the child has walked home alone, he made a wrong turn. Read the article. It's a sad story, but very isolated with very strange details and facts.

The man waw Orthodox NOT Hasidic Orthodox. Hasidic Orthodox is a more conservative sect of Judism. The boy was Hasidic.

Orthodox, Hasidic

BFD

The man is a sicko. Who the hell cares what religion he practiced??

Uh, yes the man is sick. I was correcting the PP's error. The PP said they were both Hasidic, which is untrue. I never disagreed that he isn't seriously messed up.

Wrong. Just statistically wrong. Get over it.
Show me the statistics of male abductors holding children. Go ahead and try. You have a thing or two to learn about conditional probabilities.

6th item in bold. 75% of abductors are men.

If you need something more formal. Go to page 8.

Is it sexist to be more afraid that a strange man will rape me than a strange woman? No? Then I get to have my children be more afraid of strange men than strange women because the men are more dangerous.

b/c 10:21 thinks a man with a baby has abducted the child

10:21 here. At 4, my child is unable to judge whether a person is good or bad, whether they are accompanied by a child or not. I am much more confident that a woman with a child (whether it's a mother, grandmother or nanny) would more readily help a lost child. It may certainly be sexist but where my child is concerned, I could care less.

I just wonder how many of you who don't trust men have been molested.

serious thought

In my life, all the men I've known may not have been perfect but they'd be perfect candidates for helping a young child in need.

How can you be good role models for your kids if this is the message you're sending them?

Never been molested or had any negative experiences with men myself. I'm going with the facts, not personal experience. If a random person on the street is going to hurt my child, that person is probably male.

The killer may be Hasidic -

Aron was Jewish but it's not clear if he's Hasidic. A $100,000 reward had been offered. Hikind said the outpouring of support has been tremendous, with people from all over the state volunteering their time to scour the neighborhood and hand out flyers.

Apparently the neighborhoods have their own "security" and are relatively safe -

Hasidism is a form of mystical ultra-Orthodox Judaism. Followers live in communities nearly closed off to modern society and wear traditional dress — for men, dark clothing that includes a long coat and a fedora-type hat. Men often have long beards and ear locks.

On the other hand, if your child is wandering around alone because he's passing up help, he could end up in trouble, too. I'm sure the Protecting the Gift guy didn't run the numbers on that.

I think he took him, probably sexually abused him and killed him and is trying to make it seem less "intentional." Either way, the story makes me so sad. I've helped a bunch of lost kids find their moms, both before and after I had a kid. I'm always really glad they feel they can "ask a lady" for help.

You are underestimating the really bad outcome of crazy combined with old testament guilt.

Of course you wonder. And you're probably right. Most likely a large number of women here have been molested. By men. You'd never assume (or wonder) if a large number of people on this board were biased against women because they were abused by women. Because whether or not you want to admit it, you know that's very unlikely to be the case for such a large group. But of course you already knew that.

he missed his bus and then took a wrong turn and got lost

this is not the time, but
make sure your kid knows what to do if he misses the bus and if he finds he is in a place that is not familiar.

like a cell phone or something
