| the last footage of the young boy is what gets me. I have an eight year old boy-I was watching him skip along with his bag and thought my son would be the same-so excited to be on his own and then miss the block he had to turn onto...I have spoken to all my kids about NEVER getting into a car with strangers but...I keep thinking that maybe Leiby knew his killer or had seen him around or recognized that he was a jew too and felt comfortable with him...I cannot stomach stories like these. |
This child was a Hasidic jew, as was the killer. It was the first time the child has walked home alone, he made a wrong turn. Read the article. It's a sad story, but very isolated with very strange details and facts. |
This will make your jaw drop. This is how stupid, for lack of a better word, kids are. On my son's first day of 9th grade he was walking to the bus stop. A car pulled up and asked where the bus stop was. There was a man and two kids in the car. He didn't know the kids or the man. He GOT IN THE CAR and took them to the bus stop. I SHIT MYSELF when he told me what he did. I was caught between wanting to hug him and wanting to slap him. How, after 15 years of teaching him not to talk to strangers, did this 9th grader get in the car with a stranger. It still gives me chills when I think about it. As far as the jewish boy, I think I may have read the killer knew the boy, they did only live blocks apart. |

I tell my kids to find a mom or a dad - any adult with little kids or to find a store employee.

The man waw Orthodox NOT Hasidic Orthodox. Hasidic Orthodox is a more conservative sect of Judism. The boy was Hasidic. |
Your story made my stomach drop. What did your 9th grader say?!? I can't imagine how angry and relieved I would have felt. |
b/c 10:21 thinks a man with a baby has abducted the child |
Orthodox, Hasidic BFD The man is a sicko. Who the hell cares what religion he practiced?? |
| Read Gavin de Becker's Protecting the Gift -- he advocates if your child is lost, tell them to go find a mom or a woman, NOT someone in a uniform and definitely not a man. Men commit 98% of these type of crimes. |
I did the same thing. She was an older woman of my ethnicity and she seemed nice. I got in the car, she drove me to school. Luckily nothing bad happened, but now I realize how stupid I was to do it. |
As a mom I was happy my son was safe, but I also wanted to choke him. For 15 years you cram safety rules down their throats and on the first day of high school when you think they know better he breaks the rule. I'd understand if he gave directions, but getting in the car. My heart still sinks thinking about it. GAH. |
who cares if this is sexist? WE're supposed worry about being sexist over the safety of our children??? WTF? More men than women hurt children. |
| My 11-year-old heard the story on the news and immediately asked, "Didn't he know you're supposed to get help from a woman who has kids with her?" |
I agree. We're surrounded by racism and racial stereotypes all over the place. No man (and many women) wouldn't trust a female mechanic, would look down on a female truck driver and men usually objectify good looking women who work in construction. Women still make less than men in comparable fields. I think we should start fighting all those stereotypes... But when it comes to the safety of my children I'll gladly send my politically correctness down the drain. It's proven statistically that men commit this type of crime more often than women. It would be stupid to ignore that to be PC while endangling a child. Get over it. |
| I ment sexism and sexist stereotypes. |
