Try Mercuroclear for those of you who don't want to put nail polish remover on your face.
Basically the idea is that once you have the sore, it's germy. This kills the germs and my Rite Aid brand has a little anesthetic in it so doesn't hurt. I find it shortens life of sore considerably and I have almost no scab phase. |
| Denavir is a topical cream. I've had good luck with it, but I've used Valtrex too. |
| Valtrex works to prevent cold sores, but once u have one put calendula oil or oinment on it. The calendula oil will dry it and really speed up the healing time. It is also easier to apply foundation or concealer over a dried sore. However, if the cold sore is in the corner of your mouth, you may not want to dry out the sore with calendula oil because the movement of your mouth may crack open the sore and result in bleeding, so use the calendula ointment instead. Calendula can be bought at whole foods, vitamin shoppe or online. It also works great to heal any open wound or chapped lips/ skin. No household should be without calendula- it works wonders. |

Denavir, which is a topical cream, is amazing. If I can apply it as soon as I feel the tingle and reapply every few hours, 75% of the time I won't get the cold sore. I have had them since I was an infant and they are incredibly painful and embarrassing.
Denavir lessens the pain considerably and cuts the healing time down to less than 4-5 days, even on the large ones that extend upwards towards your nose. I have also found that cutting out anything highly acidic like orange juice, oranges or tomato sauce has helped cut down on the frequency immensely. |
Yup me too. I get horrible fever blisters, not really a big cold sore, but a ton of tiny bumps. If i remotely feel that coming on, I pop some Valtrex and they never end up emerging. i always have a stash handy. It is odd, I have not had them since having kids. I feel like outbreaks are very hormonal for me. Also, I've been with my DH for 15 years and he has never had them. We have not been super careful. I have a theory that some people might be immune to Herpes, or might be carriers, but never mainfest symptoms. I'm suprised he never got them. I gave them to my mom and we never kissed on the mouth, I'm sure she contracted them via a shared object. Why never my DH with whom I'm intimate? |
Cold sores are not a bacteria or a "germ". They are a virus. Only an antiviral will work. Cold sores to not respond to topical treatment (maybe you get some relief) but the Herpes VIRUS is in your BLOOD. |
| Cut open a clove of garlic and smash it slightly until the juice appears . Hold it on the cold sore for 5 mins- warning.. This will hurt like hell. Wash with water then apply neosporin. Do this 2 to 3 times a day. Works way better thsn abreva. |
| Zovirax (prescription cream) - abreva does nothing for me |
| I've suffered from cold sores since I was a child. Denavir is the only medicine that has worked for me. However, I recently read about putting an ice cub on the spot the minute you feel the first tingle. I'm normally get an outbreak once a month but I've managed to go three months without a full blown outbreak if I use ice immediately. My poor five year old gets them too, and it's awful seeing him suffer. I can't believe I passed them on to him given how careful I was when I had outbreaks. I freaking hate cold sores!!!!! |
Lord knows you cant get any sort of medicine into the blood.....through an open sore.....that's bleeding. Or you know through a patch type system....for nicotine....anti pregnancy.. Actually the cold sore is the reaction from the virus and since you cant kill the virus you treat the symptoms aka the cold sore. Walgreens made this great product its called "fast acting cold sore relief" it comes in 2 vials that are single use. It costs around $20, or $12 when its on sale. Break the vial and rub it onto the coldsore causing micro tears in the skin allowing the medicine to penetrate into the open sore and alas im sure some if it gets into the blood. Another company used to make a similar product and charge $49 for it. The active ingredient Benzalkonium CL .13%.....heres what I do Go to the store, buy some bactine, low and behold the active ingredient is the same as the medicine above Benzalkonium CL .13% and a little lidocane to help with pain relief. Spray some on a clean finger, cotton swab, pad, whatever you want and saturate the cold sore. Wash your hands before and after obviously. If the cold sore is growing aka blister style, pop it with a needle, wipe off the pus and saturate with the medicine. Popping the cold sore will stop the blister from growing and damaging more skin keeping the size of the cold sore small. After a day it will turn into a scab and then you continue to treat with Bactine. keep on doing this. It has cut the healing time of my coldsores easily in half. I spray it with bactine pretty much every hour or whenever I remember. I have had them go away in as little as 3-4 days. Usually my coldsores last weeks with this maybe 1 week tops before its on its way out. Obviously I don't take the most precautionary/sanitary way to attacking my coldsores but it works and they don't leave scars anymore because I don't let them get that big. Good luck when all else fails go to the doctor get some Valtrex for genital herpes, put it on your face. Cold sore will be gone SO FAST.

Valtrex and denavir, I can kill mine in a day if I work from home and apply denavir every hour. The valtrex I take even after its out, it keeps it from hurting and from getting bigger.

| If I get sores on my cheeks/inside lip, but never anywhere visible outside like on lip or side of lip, it it the same thing?? |
Valtrex is the best thing that ever happened to me! |
