Try Mercuroclear for those of you who don't want to put nail polish remover on your face. Basically the idea is that once you have the sore, it's germy. This kills the germs and my Rite Aid brand has a little anesthetic in it so doesn't hurt. I find it shortens life of sore considerably and I have almost no scab phase.
Cold sores are not a bacteria or a "germ". They are a virus. Only an antiviral will work. Cold sores to not respond to topical treatment (maybe you get some relief) but the Herpes VIRUS is in your BLOOD.
Lord knows you cant get any sort of medicine into the blood.....through an open sore.....that's bleeding. Or you know through a patch type system....for nicotine....anti pregnancy.. Actually the cold sore is the reaction from the virus and since you cant kill the virus you treat the symptoms aka the cold sore. Walgreens made this great product its called "fast acting cold sore relief" it comes in 2 vials that are single use. It costs around $20, or $12 when its on sale. Break the vial and rub it onto the coldsore causing micro tears in the skin allowing the medicine to penetrate into the open sore and alas im sure some if it gets into the blood. Another company used to make a similar product and charge $49 for it. The active ingredient Benzalkonium CL .13%.....heres what I do Go to the store, buy some bactine, low and behold the active ingredient is the same as the medicine above Benzalkonium CL .13% and a little lidocane to help with pain relief. Spray some on a clean finger, cotton swab, pad, whatever you want and saturate the cold sore. Wash your hands before and after obviously. If the cold sore is growing aka blister style, pop it with a needle, wipe off the pus and saturate with the medicine. Popping the cold sore will stop the blister from growing and damaging more skin keeping the size of the cold sore small. After a day it will turn into a scab and then you continue to treat with Bactine. keep on doing this. It has cut the healing time of my coldsores easily in half. I spray it with bactine pretty much every hour or whenever I remember. I have had them go away in as little as 3-4 days. Usually my coldsores last weeks with this maybe 1 week tops before its on its way out. Obviously I don't take the most precautionary/sanitary way to attacking my coldsores but it works and they don't leave scars anymore because I don't let them get that big. Good luck when all else fails go to the doctor get some Valtrex for genital herpes, put it on your face. Cold sore will be gone SO FAST.
