Crap. How do you know if you've gotten an undercooked one? I get them at the PC Costco all the time!

El Pollo Rico in Arlington. I think it's in Wheaton too.

I also like the Crisp and Juicy ones. The locations I know are Arlington and Falls Church.

Costco one is good, and an amazing deal.

BJs one is nasty.

Anonymous wrote:I get mine from Sam's Club but sometimes they are undercooked (just like I found at Costco when we belonged). That's why I always cook them somemore in my oven or I pull it apart and saute over the stove. But it is so worth it, because the flavor is so good.

Too me the problem with Whole Foods is they cook the chickens too long, but other stores don't cook long enough for my liking.

We also get the ones from Sam's Club. I find that the ones at Sam's Club are at least 25% larger than the ones I see at Safeway, Giant or ShoppersFW. Plus, the Sam's Club ones are always $5 whereas the ones at the grocery stores are $7 (although Safeway sells them for $5 every Friday).

That said, the Sam's Club in Laurel cooks them fully and we have not had a problem. I've been getting chicken there for many years and haven't had a problem. Of course I will say that most of the time, it was just my wife and me eating and since one chicken lasts us 2-3 meals each, it is possible that we ate cooked parts and when we reheated/recooked the chicken for the successive meals that we solved the problem. But, as I said, we've had dozens of chickens over the last 10+ years from there and never once had a problem.

Second, we also like the Peruvian chicken places that are all over the metro area. Here on the north side of town, we love Sardi's Pollo in Beltsville which makes fantastic rotisserie chickens. But it's more expensive ($10.35 for a whole chicken). The chickens are big, but still not as good a deal as Sam's.

For grocery store take-home, we like the Simple Chicken at Balducci's. No herbs or spices--just a chicken on a spit, with a little salt.

For restaurant rotisserie chicken, that place on Mt. Vernon Rd. in Arlandria, next to the Popeye's and across from McDonald's, is amazing. I really miss it. I wish I could remember its name.
(I was amused, but not surprised, when I turned on the Travel Channel one Sunday afternoon and saw Tim Carman and Anthony Bourdain visiting there, oohing and aahing over how wonderful it was.)

At Boston Market, they inject the chickens with extra fat--that's why they're so moist and wonderful.
I wonder how many other places also do that.

(No judging, BTW. I do it at home with my Thanksgiving and Christmas turkeys. But if people think they're getting a healthy, low-fat dinner with roti chicken, they may be deceiving themselves a bit.)

I never knew Trader Joe's had rotisserie chicken.

I like Crisp and Juice and Pollo Rico. Super Chicken is okay too, but I never eat in there otherwise, I come home smelling like it.
