I get mine from Sam's Club but sometimes they are undercooked (just like I found at Costco when we belonged). That's why I always cook them somemore in my oven or I pull it apart and saute over the stove. But it is so worth it, because the flavor is so good. Too me the problem with Whole Foods is they cook the chickens too long, but other stores don't cook long enough for my liking.
We also get the ones from Sam's Club. I find that the ones at Sam's Club are at least 25% larger than the ones I see at Safeway, Giant or ShoppersFW. Plus, the Sam's Club ones are always $5 whereas the ones at the grocery stores are $7 (although Safeway sells them for $5 every Friday). That said, the Sam's Club in Laurel cooks them fully and we have not had a problem. I've been getting chicken there for many years and haven't had a problem. Of course I will say that most of the time, it was just my wife and me eating and since one chicken lasts us 2-3 meals each, it is possible that we ate cooked parts and when we reheated/recooked the chicken for the successive meals that we solved the problem. But, as I said, we've had dozens of chickens over the last 10+ years from there and never once had a problem. Second, we also like the Peruvian chicken places that are all over the metro area. Here on the north side of town, we love Sardi's Pollo in Beltsville which makes fantastic rotisserie chickens. But it's more expensive ($10.35 for a whole chicken). The chickens are big, but still not as good a deal as Sam's.
