S/O question about eating habits of thin people, what do you eat.

Anonymous
(cont.) 1 100 calorie bag of Pirates Booty, maybe some hot cocoa made with Hershey's syrup and skim milk at nap time.

Dinner is a small peice of protein, the size of my palm, salad greens, a splash of homemade dressing, raw veggies, whatever I have.

Sometimes I have another hot cocoa before bed. I only drink socially, maybe twice a month and when I do I go semi big: 2 skinnygirl margaritas or 3 or 4 glasses of wine.

I'm in my early 20's, 5'3, 112lbs. I don't diet, eat fast food, forget to feed myself often especially at work, grab whatever I can whenever I can, don't eat enough veggies and fruits and need sugar at times or else I feel faint. Oh, and I never exercise unless you call running after the bus exercise. I know I know, "..then my 30's came a calling." Well, let me tell you that the women on one side of my family even as they age are thin, flat-chested , hip-less, broad-shouldered and eat whatever they want. The other side is curvy, plump, busty, and overall more feminine to me. Like a pp, I too wish I was "naturally plump." I'm tired of looking like a 14 yo boy.

I'm 38 and weigh 120 @ 5'6".

I eat whatever I want, but always make sure to have some fat and protein, and I cook mostly at home. I eat a lot of yummy salads (greens, veggies, nuts, fruit, cheese) in the summer, and make my own dressing with olive oil. During cold weather, I like whole grains, roasted veggies, and meat. I've learned to become a good home cook.

I like cheese, nuts, and salt--I don't deny myself these things, but try to make sure that I eat high quality versions of cheese and nuts in moderate amounts. I also drink coffee with whole milk, though no sugar. A few times a week, I'll eat a scoop of really good ice cream.

I've never been a gym rat, but I do like walking. I have stairs in the house that I must walk up and down a few dozen times a day.

I sleep 8 hours a night--this is really important to keeping the weight off.

This is me...seriously, almost identically. On top of that I am still nursing my 11 month old (almost around the clock). I also am constantly chasing after 3 kids, but am a little more sleep deprived. I NEVER eat dessert but drink a bit. I also run (and am up and down stairs constantly).

But I weigh closer to 150 lbs (at 5'5").

For me, I need to eat about 1,200 calories/day to see any real weight loss. Or run about 6 miles/day. And breastfeeding/watching 3 kids, I just can't do that right now...

I am in my 30's, 5'3, and 105 pounds. I eat almost anything I want (both healthy and unhealthy foods) but rarely go over 1500 calories a day. I don't drink any caloric beverages - just water, coffee, and sometimes diet soda/drinks. I try to sleep 8 hours at night, live an active lifestyle, and work out almost every day for an hour or so.

43, 5'10", 138. I don't eat anything processed if I can avoid it. No refined grains, only whole wheat. Lots of vegetables and fruits. Nuts. I bring my lunch and snacks to work every day, which saves me money and ensures that I don't eat too much out every day. A glass of wine with dinner 3 nights a week maybe. And I walk 3-5 miles everyday.

Please specify your age like some of the PP did. Most women who I know who are thin under age 35 think it's because of their lifestyle but find out when they get older that their lifestyle won't keep them thin. I'd personally like to hear more from women over 35 or 40 who have kept the weight off.

I'm in my 60's--tall and come from a family of fairly slender people but can carry weight in my hips/thighs if not careful. So . . . I did aerobics 3X/week and walked 2 miles 3X/week in my 30's, walked 3 to 4 miles daily in my 40's, worked out in a gym 3X/week in my 50's, and now back to walking (due to a knee injury) most days. I also do little things like parking my car in the far side of parking lots, taking the stairs when feasible, working in yard during free time, etc. As far as eating, I try to eat no more than 2000 calories/day, and I check food labels to maintain a lower carb diet. Although not a vegetarian, I prefer veggies and fruits to meat and eat a lot of yogurt. I adore desserts and don't keep them around the house (would only buy a cookie at a time at a bakery. If in a rush at work and didn't have time to fix a healthy lunch, I buy a strawberry/banana smoothie at Starbucks--keeps my from getting too hungry, and they're delicious.

Mostly vegetarian, low-carb, no added sugars other than fruit, low dairy and lots of walking. Almonds, no snacks, all the veggies you want.

I did that to clear up some health issues (included no gluten in there too). I believe if everyone, no matter the genetic tendencies, could maintain that diet, we'd all be our optimal weight. However, it's so hard to do with the abundance of poor choices out there, easy access to restaurants and socializing.

I am 36 5'5 110..as others have mentioned no process foods and heavy on whole grains/veggies/lean protein...so breakfast is usually some high fiber toast with almond butter or an egg in a high protein/fiber tortilla and a fruit, lunch is a big salad-I don't like dressing so I add a scoop of hummus, or add some feta, maybe a veggie burger or black bean burger with carrots...dinner much the same. Snack is usually a piece of fruit or an all fruit popscicle.. I am on the go alot so I plan my meals ahead of time. If I know I will be super busy I make sure I have some nuts, or a sandwhich or whatever with me. I also run 3-4 times of the week and do pilates most days of the week. I make a point to walk as much as I can and bc I have three boys under 7-we are very active as it is.

I don't eat any processed foods or soda. I stick to low sodium items. I eat out once every two weeks and generally eat half of my portion.
I stick to 3 servings of fruit a day and 3-4 servings of vegtables and never more than 3 oz of meat or 1/3 cup of pasta/rice. I do drink a lot of milk . . . I also exercise 5 days a week and take yoga one day a week. I stick to 1500-1800 calories a day.

I used to be fat but that was becuase I never worked out and ate 4 servings of dinner ha ha

Soda
Sugar--I really to avoid it, but it is not easy. My rule is that if I am going to eat sugar, it better be worth it.

What I do eat:
If I eat carbs, I try to eat whole grain/whole wheat
Lean proteins
lean dairy
veggies
veggies
veggies
yogurt

But what about pasta? chips? Do you really like veggies that much, or just force yourself to eat a lot?
Finally, I really try to not be sedentary. Someone posted in the obese thread about how our lifestyle is really bad for this. I completely agree. There was an article in the (NYT I think) recently about how being sedentary can takes years off of your life.

Hope that helps.

I do like to try different types of cuisines and trying out restaurants. Also, I like to be very fit and enjoy rock climbing and running, sports very dependent on weight so I try to keep my weight at a optimal level for sports even though I'm over 40.

I'm 45. For me, it's not so much what I eat but what I do. Don't own a car so I get around 6 miles a day just living my life. Also, I run, 4-7 miles/day, and do parkour, crossfit, and rockclimb for fun, not exercise. I always use sugar, butter, and put real cream in my coffee.

Do you have kids and work full time?

I am 46 and reading this, realize I will never be thin. Naturally thin women in their mid 40s love fruit and veggies, are not big on carbs and work out a lot. That is not my profile. Oh well.

I'm 37 and very thin. I always have been. I think as we age, a lot of it is just luck of the draw with genes. I eat everything, but always in moderation. I would say I generally follow an 80/20 rule. If I make good choices 80% of the time, the other 20% I can eat what I want (but always in moderation...no one stays thin eating an entire bag of cookies). I'm also generally active, but not an exerciser. Lots of walks, swimming with my toddler, etc. Also, I almost never consume calories through beverages and I don't drink diet soda. Lots of water and I drink alcohol socially but not at home.

Here's what I ate yesterday, just as an example:
Breakfast - peanut and butter jelly sandwich (whole wheat bread)
Lunch - Whole Foods salad bar- pasta salad with mozarella, chickpea salad, thai turkey salad
Dinner - Curry chicken (made with light coconut milk in my crockpot) - chicken breast on the bone, red potatoes, carrots, peas
Dessert- small dish of ice cream

I'm not a big snacker. But I never skip a meal. Ever. I get too hungry and cranky.

I have a sweet tooth. I eat something sweet every night, but a small portion. Sometimes it's real ice cream and sometimes it's a Jello pudding.

I am 47 and not super thin; however, I believe some of being able to stay thinner is simply in the genes. I still can eat whatever I want and not gain weight. However, I don't gorge myself, so when I say whatever I want I just mean that I am not counting calories or fat grams. Yesterday is a typical day - BTW I work out of the home full-time:
Breakfast - Oatmeal with brown sugar, raisens, shaved almonds and cinnamon. 2 cups of black coffee
Lunch - Greek salad with 2 cookies - water
Dinner - chinese take out/Kung-Poa Chicken, rice, 1 spring roll. Large glass of soy milk
After dinner - a glass of red wine (dessert )

I have not exercised as much as I like lately, but I am unable to sit for long periods of time so get up from my desk frequently to refill my water cup or to go to the rest room. In meetings, I am the one who will eventually stand up and stand at the back of the room.
