S/O question about eating habits of thin people, what do you eat.

I do like to try different types of cuisines and trying out restaurants. Also, I like to be very fit and enjoy rock climbing and running, sports very dependent on weight so I try to keep my weight at a optimal level for sports even though I'm over 40.

I'm 45. For me, it's not so much what I eat but what I do. Don't own a car so I get around 6 miles a day just living my life. Also, I run, 4-7 miles/day, and do parkour, crossfit, and rockclimb for fun, not exercise. I always use sugar, butter, and put real cream in my coffee.

I agree that it is mostly genes. I am very petite, 5"1' and 110lb. I normally watch what I eat, try to stay away from sugars and processed foods. If I do eat something bad like fettucini Alfredo, I only eat about a fistful. Once you start eating healthy/less salt you will learn to prefer that. Plus I am active with 2 young boys. Back to the point about genes, I do eat fast food about twice a week. I treat myself to ice cream or milk shakes once or twice a week (very small portions though). My mother and both grandmothers were exactly my size, though it is getting harder to stay in shape as I get older. I think if you are on the bigger side, and if your genes tend that way, you are going to have to work that much harder to stay in shape.
I would like to add though that I have 2 best friends who are much bigger, at least size 12's, and they are in MUCH better shape than me, they run many marathons a year. So size doesn't really matter!

20:18 that sounds awful. Is it safe to say you have to "work" at staying thin?

No you wouldn't. Please.

I meant plump (or thin) all over, instead of this pregnant-belly-over-skeleton that seems to develop with my older family members. Trust me, it looks strange.

I am 112lbs. And I'm 35. Generally watch what I eat, I try not to eat gluten, and I have much more energy. Also, I eat 5 small meals a day. Always healthy snacks, almonds, apples, larabars, lots of cheese stcicks and yogurt. I know a lot of women trying to lose weight by just cutting all fat-but snacking on fruit all day would leave me starving! I try to eat all my carbs before 5pm and eat lots of lean protein and veggies.

Please specify your age like some of the PP did. Most women who I know who are thin under age 35 think it's because of their lifestyle but find out when they get older that their lifestyle won't keep them thin. I'd personally like to hear more from women over 35 or 40 who have kept the weight off.

I'm in my mid 40s with 2 kids, am 5'4" and probably 110 pounds (really don't know), and have always been on the small side. I don't drink soda or eat meat (fully vegetarian). We eat lots of salads and fruit, and try to stick to whole grains. I always eat dessert out if given the chance (e.g., parties) but rarely do at home. I have a beer or glass of wine most nights.

I run 4 times/week (not long distance) and I do a few sports on the side, none seriously. I live in a very walkable neighborhood, so I normally walk the kids to school and walk to the grocery store, etc. I feel lucky to have "thin genes" but am also sure that my lifestyle contributes to keeping my weight stable. We'll see if the pounds pile on as I enter my late 40s.

I'm 39 and not skinny-skinny, but people consider me thin. (5'8", size 6.) I work out every day - weights, yoga, running - so I can eat more than a lot of women. I don't eat much fast food or fried food. I prefer lean meats, whole grains and veggies, and watch my portion sizes. I have a soft spot for sweets and red wine; if I were better at resisting them, I'd be even skinnier, but life's too short. I've maintained my weight in a six-pound range from freshman year in college, except for a couple years during grad school. (gained 20 lbs over 2 years.)

25, tall, thin, eat whatever I want (fast food/frozen pizza/sphagettios/chinese every day), drink at least 300 cals a night, mix in veggies when possible and rarely snack between meals, try to be active in daily life (walking the dog, running stairs, freeweights)

This was me in my 20s too and then my 30s came a-calling.

I am the only thin person in my family. The other members are constantly on a diet. Watching their pain as a child, I realized that I had an advantage. You can put a plate of brownies in front of me and, usually, I just don't feel like eating them. My sisters and my mother, the moment they saw those brownies, their stomachs would start growling, their mouths watering, even if they had eaten recently. So, basically, I eat what I want, but I just really don't feel like eating a lot. Given the strong physical response food produces in the rest of my family, I just don't think it is possible for them to be thin in a world full of cheap food.

Age 35, 5'3" and 110 pounds. I am naturally small and it's my genes. Growing up I couldn't get enough food and I was SCRAWNY and so was my brother.

Now, I eat pretty healthy but dessert every night. Sometimes moderate, sometimes a cookie the size of my face.

I'm a grazer - small meals and snacks throughout the day, and limit processed foods. No fast food, no soda. Very little diet soda and very little artificial sweeteners. I eat a fair bit of healthy fats - sunflower or almond butter, lots of nuts (mainly raw and unsalted but sometimes I grab the salty ones from the vending machine), avocados, full fat dressing. I don't eat out that much. I rarely eat meat and eat chicken or fish just a few times a week. I drink a glass of wine or two a week.

I walk a lot, and do light strength training. I work full time and unless the weather is horrible, walk to a lot of meetings etc. I don't like sitting for long, and make it a point to get up throughout the day, drink a ton of water, so fill my water bottle, so have to get up and pee, walk to someone's office, work out at lunch, walk to the printer, just walk around.

I am 30. I am a vegetarian, but I eat a lot of desserts. My only real exercise right now is walking from place to place in the city. However, I also have a one yr old whom I breastfeed, chase, wear on my back a lot, and push in a stroller.

I try to eat healthy foods, I do not drink alcohol, and I don't drink many soft drinks. I mainly drink water. But I also don't really try to limit the less healthy foods I eat, either. I attribute it mainly to my toddler and luck.

PP here. Remember, thin does not necessarily equal healthy.

45 and thin, but not nearly as thin as I was at 30.

What keeps me thin? Moderation, and paying attention. I avoid all foods I can't pronounce, and limit the animal fats.

I particularly try to avoid sweetened things (soda, yogurt with fruit in it unless I put the fruit there, candy...) I avoid all "low fat" versions of regular food -- generally too sweet.

31, 5'2, 110 lbs. I think about my weight every day. I am 10 months PP and am struggling to lose the last 10 lbs. I realize to a lot people I'm thin, but I'm not afraid to say that I like being thin and it is something I'm willing to work at.

I eat for breakfast, every day: 1/2 c. oatmeal + 1 c. skim milk + blueberries, coffee, splenda, 2% milk.

Either a Lean Cuisine or turkey breast and mustard on a thin bun/deli thin plus
