Yeah, dude! (makes the shocker sign)
We should close ALL the roads in DC and close suburbs to vehicular traffic and just be Venice, Italy every the weekend. Fuck it. |

OP, I totally agree. The LA wannabees need to get a life. I have lived in that area for 40 years now and still don't get why they do that. It is SOOOO dangerous.
What is the point of getting a good workout if you might be the next statistic???? |
| Oh no, because of those crazy bikers, my trip to Starbucks took an extra minute or two - what insensitive jerks! How dare they use public roads -- which their taxes support -- to have some fun and get some exercise. What's the point of having this expensive SUV if I can't drive it as fast as I want, wherever I want, and whenever I want - including the handful of roads in the area that I know are popular with cyclists. Something should really be done about this! |
That's how I feel when I go to the mall, except for the skinny legs. Why can't you order online? |

No, nice try. It's not about this -- it is about the fact that they are endangering lots of people and not obeying any rules of the road. Frankly, even if they have antipathy toward the car-driving public (which, your post strongly suggests is the case), do they not fear for their own safety? All it takes is a pebble in the road/uneven or wet surface/ etc. for a bike to slip right into that car that is stuck trailing him for miles (unable to pass on the winding road). Also, if they are so intent on being treated as vehicles (their legal right to use the public roads, etc.), then how about the equivalent of auto-insurance for bikers, or bike-licenses (along with all the fees MOCO likes to collect when registering a car). We drivers must maintain auto-insurance as part of our rights/responsibility to share those very same roads; we must pay a lot of money to register our cars. Our insurance is a financial burden but comes in handy if we have or cause an accident; our car registration revenues are used to maintain the roads. How about tax-happy-Montgomery-County establish a new "bike insurance and registration mandate" to insure that these bikers have some of those pesky responsibilities -- just like the rest of the vehicles that they so routinely inconvenience. Hmmmm, what a great idea. I bet there are a LOT of drivers that would support such a move. |

Good God, I hate entitled drivers.
If the bike path doesn't take you where you need to go, it's not going to work. It's possible to bike in the street without being a menace. It's also possible to share the road when you are behind the wheel of a car. -a woman who does both. |
We're talking about MacArthur Blvd. Do you ride your bike on the road there? If so, please elaborate. if not, your comments are irrelevant. |
No this ^^ is what is really about. Drivers don't want to wait. Tough nuts. |
|
I drove out MacArthur yesterday, something I do not do very often. There were a lot of cyclists using the road, but there seemed to be little to no problem for both to co-exist. I was able to safely pass two or three sets of riders in the area between Glen Echo and Great Falls. If this was the norm, I hardly see what the problem is.

| Whenever and wherever I pass a biker in traffic I always hug the curb afterwards which forces them to stop or pass me on the left, risking their lives. F them. |
| Not to sound redundant, but a big part of the problem is the lack of mutual respect by both parties. Both the bikers and the drivers are in a hurry and don't want anyone in their way or slowing them down. |
You're a jerk. What a jerk. Ppl don't pass because hey, maybe they don't want to run the risk of an accident on an extremely windy road. They don't want to hit the cyclist, they don't want to run into oncoming traffic around the curves and on and on. |
| Bikers should paid a per miles fee if they use the roads, roads are paid for with gas taxes. They are starting to charge hyb cars in the PAC north west. |
| Call county police and tell them to enforce the law. Get some cops out there and bikers will leave. |
