Montessori is great for elementary. The curriculum is so much richer than that pablum that DCPS serves up as they flog children to the DC CAS finish line.

I think there are 80 spaces to fill at the LAMB Brookland Campus. We were on the wait list and got a call a few weeks ago, which we turned down. I think I remember hearing they will have 4 classrooms of 3/4s, each about 20-22 kids.

LAMB parent here: 80 spaces at the new campus. Four classrooms of 20 kids.

New campus looks great. Classrooms have lots of natural light, and the playground, although a bit small, will do.

There are plans for getting parents involved in beautification of the play area.

Does anyone know anything about the campus on Missouri Avenue? What is the curriculum? I went on the website however, ,the link for curriculum is broken. Is the curriculum the same at all campus? What are the other campus locations? How do parents feel about this school? What are the assessment testing scores like? Any parents have any feed back?

The curriculum is Montessori, which is very different than what we had as kids. Make sure you go to an open house to learn about Montessori methods. I'm a big fan of it and we had a great experience at LAMB. Also the kids learn in both English and Spanish, and by 3rd grade or so can read and write in both languages. The community is very bicultural (latino/anglo) and it is extremely family-friendly and welcoming compared to many other schools. Special ed is done particularly well. Test scores are pretty good, mostly going up every year -- something like 60s and 70s, which puts them in the top charters. Considering they spend 1/2 the time in English, they do really well on the reading portion.

The downside is that the building on Missouri is crowded -- there just isn't enough room to have everything you would want there. If the school gets to go to Walter Reed, that should help a lot. Another down side is that the school does not "feed" to a middle school, so 4th/5th grade families are trying every lottery out there to find a space in a good middle school. Last year's 5th graders went to private schools, charters and traditional DCPS.

I thought LAMB and Yu Ying are making an immersion middle school/high school at Walter Reed.

they may be thinking about it, but there are so many unknowns that who knows if it will ever get done and/or be any good? Do LAMB/YY even have the space officially yet? Have they even begun their renovations? No. and that's for the schools they already have. So I would not get too excited about any upper school possibilities at this point.

My DC is in Pre-K, so I've got time to watch and pitch in and get excited as necessary. It sure sounds like a great idea to me!
