Am I the only one who doesn't get the appeal of Two and Half Men?

There aren't many sitcoms on TV compared to years ago -- now mostly you have police/dead people dramas, or reality shows. So it's a popular sitcom because it doesn't make people feel stupid fpr not getting the jokes, and it doesn't require them to really pay attention because the characters are all the same each time, the jokes are all the same, the plot is always the same....

Never thought about some of these points, but they make perfect sense.

So very sad!

Very sad that I didn't invest the mental energy in trying to understand the appeal of a mediocre show that I don't watch?

It's very sad for this country, that the above seems to be a very reasonable theory as to why this drivel is the #1 comedy in America.

I love the show! It's hysterical
Maybe some of you are in a different age demographic then they were aiming for?

30 something here...never watched it and never will.

It's dirty as hell and sometimes funny because so dirty it's awkward.

Yes. During the first and only episode I saw on Sunday, Sheen's character pulled up his shirtail, looked down at his crotch, and apologized to his penis for not taking swift action after meeting a bimbo-ish character in the grocery store. Of course his penis won out in the end, and he abandoned his groceries.

It was indeed awkward, juevenile, and not the least bit funny. And I am not a prude or uptight. Just found it. . .uninspired and lazy.

I think it is completely understandable that what is funny to some people may be different for others. (I LOVED the first three seasons of Scrubs before it jumped the shark. My mother thinks the show is idiotic.)

But I don't think this is a case where the appeal can be attributed to age demographics. As others have noted, it does appeal to a certain mentality. I will stop now, before I sound like a jerk.

Whatever. I've not seen it in at least a couple of years (I don't have time for TV any more), but I used to really like Two and a Half Men. Charlie Sheen was easy on the eyes and I liked his charm. I find Jon Cryer appealing too. I was kinda put off by the son and the housekeeper, and some of the other females were gross, but I found the show entertaining nonetheless. Go figure. I guess I just didn't take it that seriously!! (Again, this is based on the show from a few years back; no idea if it's still the same.)

I really liked Everyone Loves Raymond too. But I also loved Arrested Development and Scrubs, and my other pastimes include reading weighty nonfiction books for fun. Don't be too quick to draw conclusions about people and the state of society just based on one TV show.

The fat pasty kid? That could be my son in 4 years if I don't push him harder than I do now to get him off the couch and into more regular physical activity. Seeing that older chub scared me straight bc DS definitely has those tendencies.

Thanks, half a man!

HA HA HA HA HA HA!! Thanks for a good laugh!

Ugh, I think the show is TERRIBLE. And I think Charlie Sheen is ugly - he looks like the vagrants that sleep on the streets of Santa Barbara and are a month away from terrible deaths.

That kid is about six years older now and thinned out but I guess that doesn't make you less of a bitch. Yes, that's right, I called you a bitch because you pick on children.

I guess the fact of the matter is, most people aren't tuning into mass media to be challenged or surprised. So, the mass media that will succeed most is that which is pitched to the lowest common denominator. People want to see stereotypes behaving in stereotypical ways. I sometimes think that classics like All in the Family lasted so long because most people saw them superficially as reaffirming their stereotypical ideas (instead of seeing that they were, instead, commentary on stereotyping and bigotry). Anything that goes against the dominant ideology of the time, or is too different from the majority's expectations, will be -- at best -- a dark horse. (Think of other quirky/interesting shows that didn't last long because they were too different from the norm -- Pushing Daisies, Firefly, Freaks & Geeks.)

Uh, yeah, I may have studied TV in college. Sorry for the nerdout.

At least there's a little wheat here and there amongst the chaff (even if it gets canceled too soon)

Sorry, but Big Ban Theory is a show I absolutely love and I also like Community and Parks and Rec. Two and a Half Men pretty much sucks donkey balls (great, now I have given them a plot) and is not at all what I would consider appropriate for it's time slot. A show like The Middle is one that I would like to see repeated in the 8pm slots. Something my kids could watch.

Charlie Sheen is AWESOME. Love him. The interview today on TMZ might have been the best television ever.

I am a better person than everyone because I disdain popular entertainment!

They're in talks to replace Charlie Sheen with John Stamos. THAT I'd watch.

Am I the only person in America who hated Everybody Loves Raymond? I only watched it a few times and I just didn't think it was funny at all. I thought the humor was really obvious. All my married friends loved it; none of my single friends did, which made me wonder if it purposely skewed toward married people.

I have watched 2.5 men since the beginning and I like it. Sure, it's juvenile. Sure, it's vulgar. But I'm ok with that because it often makes me laugh. I also like Modern Family, Cougar Town, Big Bang Theory. I loved The Office and Scrubs before they jumped the shark. I loved "Better Off Ted" but they pulled it. (Used to watch Arrested Development, too, and enjoyed it.)
