LOL. I felt the same way about Fraisier. I cannot believe that show lasted so long.
I did see one of the first Two and a Half Men the other night (there was nothing else on and i was menu planning at the same time). It was actually a little funny. But now - egads - its not funny at all. |
| this show is abysmal and I don't know a single person that watches it. genuinely funny shows like arrested development get cancelled and this dreck is number one in the ratings? how can this be? |
| I agree with the PP. Loved Arrested Development and it was canned, but 2 1/2 Men is popular and has been on the air for a number of years?!? WTF. It is interesting that no one on this thread liked the show. Now, I love Parks and Recreation - it grew on me. |

2 1/2 men is an unchallenging show ; you don't have to think at all to get the joke, which is juvenile, which is what a lot of people love about it.
There aren't many sitcoms on TV compared to years ago -- now mostly you have police/dead people dramas, or reality shows. So it's a popular sitcom because it doesn't make people feel stupid fpr not getting the jokes, and it doesn't require them to really pay attention because the characters are all the same each time, the jokes are all the same, the plot is always the same.... |
| Yes! The shows I love get cancelled (Arrested Development, etc.), yet this has been on for NINE years. It is misogynist and dull. |
Never thought about some of these points, but they make perfect sense. |
So very sad! |
Very sad that I didn't invest the mental energy in trying to understand the appeal of a mediocre show that I don't watch? |

I goggled reviews, and came across this one from a viewer who is a fan:
http://www.viewpoints.com/Two-and-a-Half-Men-reviews "I love this show , It's the perfict mix with the one brother thats book smart , not good looking at all, totly soshle retared he has a son thats such the averg boy want to eat and get durty . The other brother is good looking has money always says the right thing and is a totle man whore. He has this crazy chick staker thats totle in love with him, theay all live togther . the housekeeper is grest to i think sh should get more air time . Ther mother is a drunk that did not take care ove theam when theay wer kids . the show is just great." |

Good point about not needing to think.
I loved Arrested Development, but it was one of the shows that got funnier after a few shows. And if you go back and watch whole series, it is hilarious. But if you turn in halfway through the show, you probably sit there thinking "what?" |
|
I like the show. There is nothing to get...it's just a comedy show...like big bang theory. I love that show but there is nothing to get.
It's a show...it's entertaining. If you dint think so, don't watch it, clearly, enough people do. But it's not some deep show to think about. |

Oooh I HAAAAAAAAAAATE that show..
I really like Everybody Loves Raymond.. I really disliked Seinfield too... that show just annoyed me to no end.. I've never watched a whole lot of two and a half man, but part of the reason I'm so turned off by it is the fact that I despise Charlie Sheen.. but I also really don't like the concept of the whole show.. and if that review a PP posted is an example of the mentality of the fans (and I would totally believe that it is) than I am really sad for America. |
|
The sad part is PP's taking themselves so seriously. Wait, that is the laughable part.
|
| IF YOU WATCHED IT YOU WOULD SEE IT IS NOT A VERY GOOD SHOW THAT VERY MUCH. |

The fact that Two and a Half Men and Big Bang Theory are so popular while shows like Parks and Rec and Community struggle to find an audience make me weep for mankind. It's Arrested Development all over.
I guess the fact of the matter is, most people aren't tuning into mass media to be challenged or surprised. So, the mass media that will succeed most is that which is pitched to the lowest common denominator. People want to see stereotypes behaving in stereotypical ways. I sometimes think that classics like All in the Family lasted so long because most people saw them superficially as reaffirming their stereotypical ideas (instead of seeing that they were, instead, commentary on stereotyping and bigotry). Anything that goes against the dominant ideology of the time, or is too different from the majority's expectations, will be -- at best -- a dark horse. (Think of other quirky/interesting shows that didn't last long because they were too different from the norm -- Pushing Daisies, Firefly, Freaks & Geeks.) Uh, yeah, I may have studied TV in college. Sorry for the nerdout. At least there's a little wheat here and there amongst the chaff (even if it gets canceled too soon)
