Hints for getting miralax down?

We put it in chocolate milk every other night. I don't put a lot of chocolate in the milk, just enough to cover the taste/texture. Now my son is so used to it that he never complains.

We put it in shakes - milk or yogurt, banana, peanut butter, and ovaltine plus the miralax. Have just started adding fiber, too, and the doc recommended we do those Benefiber chewables.

There is an interesting book out called "Its No Accident" about poop problems, particularly how they relate to bed wetting. I'm finding it very interesting and helpful since my now 6 year old has been struggling with this for a year.

I'm going to look for those chocolate covered prunes, too!

Chocolate pudding worked well for us.

My daughter (also 3.5) had a similar issue - we gave her miralax and called it the "magic powder" - that would help her poop hurt less. I would put it in a fun cup and let her watch me mix it - it would "magically" disappear in the water...she loved it. Then she would drink it right down.

Hot chocolate with whipped cream while drinking it in a special cup with an extra book read while my 5 year old drinks his 6 oz of hot chocolate + 2.5 tsp of Miralax. Every night to get the poops out.

I kept my child on bottle much longer than I otherwise would have but we have to get the Miralax down.

My daughter has acute constipation so bad that she bleeds into her stool. So, you know better than her doctor?

We went through the withholding stage with DD#2. It was horrible, so we have BTDT. The top poster makes a good point about the aluminum. Many doctor's don't give much thought to natural approaches to reverse constipation. Even after the withholding stage had passed, she was still constipated. I discovered that my DD is gluten sensitive and once GF her constipation disappeared. Adults and children should not needs "medical aids" to move their bowels. If you do, then something is off in your diet. Not enough water, not enough fruit or fiber or a food sensitivity. Gluten, grains, corn, soy or GMOs can all cause problems for sensitive people. Our family does not have a history of food allergies or sensitivities, but I now see first hand how this can play out and affect one's overall health.

Perhaps a registered dietician would be more helpful than a doctor. BTW - dieticians have an extensive science background, so they better understand how food affects health.

We're thinking about try miralax to help with nightime dryness. If I give a dose at 7 am on Friday, when would it start working? Would we make it home from school at 4 pm?

I was told by our ped-gastro not to use milk products but stick with clear liquids...we do hot chocolate...but now with summer coming I am not sure how that will go...my son is 12 and is healing from mega-colon which damaged his colon...he started miralax in Aug 2012 and we plan to be on it for awhile.

All I can say is get control of your childs issues at an early age. My son is 9 and we are still dealing with bathroom issues. Do not wait make sure you get it under control now. We are still doing miralax and hoping for a miracle.

Yes, our ped gastro said the same - do not mix miralax with a dairy drink - it decreases the effectiveness.

I ended up putting it in smoothies. Introducing smoothies to my child also helped to do away with the Miralax!

PP, how was the mega colon diagnosed? Also, who is the ped gastro doc? We think we may have these issues and would love to know the name of someone good.

It's odd, because we found that it dissolved best in water. You stir it up and then give it a few minutes to totally dissolve. Doesn't dissolve as well in milk.
