Hints for getting miralax down?

Anonymous
Miralax is exactly at age 3.5, my son is still on a bottle. He never went off the bottle and that is how we get the Miralax down. We make a 9 oz bottle. That is 8-9 oz of milk + 1 package Carnation Instant Sugar free -Chocolate. Pour 6 oz into another bottle add the Miralax. Child gets the 6 oz bottle with all the miralax and the rest 2-3 oz in the second bottle. That way we know he always gets all the Miralax down. Before we did the 2 bottle strategy, some days he would drink 6-oz and some days 9 oz, so now we at least know he got all the Miralax and if he wants the second bottle, he can have it.

My child has been on Miralax and/or Milk or Magnesia since he turned 2.

I mix it in with gatorade- the red one (I think it is punch flavored) works like a charm.
Good luck!

I wouldn't use miralax...it has aluminum in it.

i tried putting it in milk once and it got really funky and frothy. but she didn't seem to notice all that much.

a friend of mine said she used to put it in root beer floats. never tried it but seemed like a good idea.

maybe in food? ice cream? yogurt?

good luck, i hope it works...definitely worked for us but we had to keep using it for quite a long time. we stopped a few times hoping things would improve and she'd go right back to withholding. but happy to report that now at age almost 4 she doesn't need the miralax anymore and things are great. she started having this issue right before age 2 and was on the miralax for almost a year.

I take so many meds that I take it a lot and I use the power aid furit flavored one.

Bump so I can find out where to get chocolate covered prunes.

Yes! Seriously! Where? My kids (both very constipated and on Miralax...) will eat regular prunes sometimes but I know the chocolate ones would work even better...

You could also try a fun straw or letting her scoop and mix it herself

We've used it for years and have had to keep changing what we put it in because they keep figuring out our tricks and refuse things. Our best success has been in fruit drinkables and hot apple cider with a dash of cinnamon.

My daughter has acute constipation so bad that she bleeds into her stool. So, you know better than her doctor?

I was told not to put mirlax in yogurt that it makes it not as effective....Has anyone esle heard this?

applesauce

you can pretty much put any powdered meds in applesauce. Its better for them than soda/gatorate/chocolate milk.
