Recommend a good car for snow

Do you mean front wheel drive or four wheel drive?

With front wheel drive - most of the weight is in the front of the car, and driving power is sent to the front wheels. This gives better grip/traction to the front wheels.

With four wheel drive - weight is more even and driving power is only sent to one side (right or left) at a time depending which has the better grip/traction on the road.

With all wheel drive - weight is more even and driving power can be sent to any wheel any side front, back, or either side, therefore all 4 wheels have better grip and traction.

That's my understanding of it anyway - I could have that mixed up a little. This probably explains it better then I can: http://www.ehow.com/about_5475617_front-drive-vs-wheel-drive.html

if you go to maine or colorado you will see subarus everywhere.

Subaru might also be the official car of New Hampshire. We have a Volvo XC90 (SUV) which is great for snow, as is the V70 (wagon), but I love driving my MIL's Subaru in the NH snow.

I have a Subaru Outback and it is the BEST car I have ever driven in the snow (even in the rain). My husband has a Subaru Legacy and feels the same. I have owned a Jeep Grand Cherokee, Toyota 4Runner and Nissan Murano....this car, hands down, beats all of them in the snow. I purchased mine on a whim last year right before the snow storms...and I don't think I can ever drive another car in bad weather. Unless they come out with a car that beats a Subaru, I don't think I will ever own a 4 wheel drive car that is not made by them.

I live in Canada -- land of ice and snow. Subaru. End of story.

Could not agree more.

I also have a Subaru Outback (impreza outback so it's a fairly small car). I'm no snow-driving expert and I can feel a tangible difference in driving this car v. our wimpy Toyota when it's icy or snowy. This car works wonders in the snow... I rarely slip unless it's very icy.

We have a volvo sedan w/ the winter package (so w/ traction control, which may be standard on some models) and it was awesome in last year's snow.

I still mourn the loss of my Subaru Outback eight years ago, which I loved beyond all reason. We had to trade it in for a minivan when we had a third child. It is a fabulous car; I fell in love with it when my BIL drove us in his across a river in Colorado! We just bought a great SUV, which I also love and was fantastic in the snow this week; such a great change from our former minivan.
