Recommend a good car for snow

We have a Volvo XC90 and it is a fabulous car! I know that OP did not ask for an SUV recommendation, but I suspect that any Volvo AWD car is a gem. Look into the station wagons!

Just bought a Subaru Forrester and it did fantastic. I don't think we would have gotten out of our neighborhood without it. We have the basic model and they all come with 4wheel drive.

My friend has a Subaru wagon which she swears by.

Yep. Audi definitely makes the best all wheel drive. I had an A4 in the early 2000s and it was quite impressive in the snow.

Another vote for good tires. I don't have AWD, but my car has these heavy duty sport tires, and they made a HUGE difference (versus my DH's regular tires).

Subaru Outback or Volvo.

What exactly is the difference between AWD and FWD?

I cannot recommend our Audi enough. In our horrific commute home, we saw BMWs, Mercedes, Raves, Lexus, and of course Metrobuses all fishtailing and spinning out and we had no problems in our Audi A4 wagon.

We have really good radials for snow on our Honda Accord. Hondas have a tight turning radius. Last year, I was the only car (SUVs did ok) to safely get up and down a sheet of ice on Goldsboro Rd. It helps to know to drop your automatic into low gear on hills.

my DH's subaru earned his undying love on Wednesday. So much so that our lease is ending and we're getting another one. He has an outback.

I LOVE my subaru outback which has almost the same ground clearance of the forrester with more cargo room. Before that I had a little putt putt 97 hyundai that I bought in college and drove for 10 yrs and it was great too. Never got stuck in either car.

Our Volvo XC70 does great in the snow.
